review by Jim Fox

On a windy and cold Northwest Indiana night, a massive three-band bomb exploded in McCool’s that literally blew everyone away who witnessed this event.

Opening the show was a kick ass Elgin, Illinois band called DROP, who put on one hell of a show!

Vocalist Russ Stevens exhibits a commanding stage presence with his fierce, growling, vocals. He is the perfect vocal match for the blistering guitar work of Pat Davey and Jimmy Haboush.

Anchoring the groove well for DROP is the crunching bass of Andy Smith and Jamie Little’s booming drum beats.
Gaining the audience’s attention immediately from the outset with their song, “Walk Away,”   DROP played all original material and played it well. Concluding their set as powerfully as they began it, with a hard hitting tune called, “ Super Dead”. DROP are a very intense band that employ great showmanship. They ROCK!
TERMINAL FIX came next. They are a very impressive, albeit relatively new regional band from Hammond, Indiana.
They established their presence right away with a bone jarring set of songs from their independent debut CD, which put the crowd DROP kick-started into party mode, into an even deeper frenzy.

TERMINAL FIX reminded me of Pantera and Disturbed put together. They smash your brain with a loud, tight package of mental destruction! With Q-Ball leading the way on vocals, Ed the Hed on guitar, NRG on bass, Dave Dredd playing drums. Supplimenting the T.F. sound is resident turntablist, DJ This, whose scratching and dropping bits into the mix via his Technic 1200s, gives a unique edge to their gut-punching music.

Anthrax finally took the stage and cranked things up a few notches. Rocking the house down were the always dynamic John Bush on vocals, bassist Frank Bello, drummer Charlie Benante, and the dual string work of guitarists Rob Caggiano and Scott Ian.

The band definitely gave fans their money’s worth on this night, busting out tunes from the early years on up to a new selections from their new album, “We’ve Come For You All.”

Both new and old cuts found feverish favor with the rabid Hoosier crowd which laid down their dollars to work up a sweat in the makeshift pit that formed, while tossing devil horns enthusiastically in the air that Saturday.

Big Apple ball-busters –– Anthrax –– came and conquered the cornfields. The sleepy burb of South Haven may never be the same again.

McCool’s gets a loud shout out for putting on a most excellent event. All three bands were excellent in their own right, leaving anyone who attended, thoroughly drained, but very satisfied.
Nuff said!
