Sean
Lennon's performance was on fire..that is..Friendly Fire
“I don't want to hear another word from you now/ I'd rather be
wrong,” proclaimed EMI/Capitol recording artist Sean
Lennon, as he opened his show at the Park West in Chicago,
with his new ballad "Friendly Fire" from his brand
new CD with the same title.
Sean took stage wearing a suit and tie, large glasses,
and sporting a rough beard. With his four-piece band behind
him, Sean grabbed his guitar to sing this backstabbing song
about his ex lover betraying him with his best friend. This
simple ballad with powerful lyrics screams remorse and
attack; "You launched the assault with the first
cannonball/ My soldiers were sleeping." Sean, with his
delicate vocals, is on tour promoting his latest CD
release.
The night was filled with most of his new songs he
wrote dealing with relationships, love, and breakups. Next,
Sean then performed “Dead Meat” which is another song
about betrayal of a friend who messed with his then
girlfriend Bijou Phillips. Once again the lyrics are
painfully intelligent and to the point; “In the end
you're gonna learn/ Oh, you'll get what you deserve.”
One of the best songs of the night was “Spectacle”
where he declares that love is a dangerous game. Other
ballad songs included "On Again, Off Again," "Wait
For Me," the hand-clapping "Headlights," and with
his band leaving the stage, he stood solo and played his
guitar to perform the touching "Tomorrow," which is a
tearful and tragic breakup song.
With this being his second CD release, he has grown
tremendously with being a top-notch musician. He might have
“the name” but he has the raw talent of delivering the
goods. Sean told the crowd that he sometimes gets a little
depressed around the holidays, and jokingly said he just
found out that there is no Santa.
Sean Lennon put on a top notch performance, and let's
hope he keeps making a Spectacle out of his music!
