The entertainment at Chicago's Metro on May 1, was truely extraordinary. Unlike other events when the crowd could be considered somewhat intimidating, the fans were cordial and friendly. The main attraction was intense Chi-town
Irish rocker Michael McDermott and his super talented band.

The event was meant to introduce his legions of hometown fans to the new music from his newly released CD "Ashes".  Since it contains an assortment of moods, messages, and experiences, Michael considers it a "scrap-book" of  music. However there is nothing fragmented or scrappy about his music or performance.

Au contraire... McDermott's music is extremely well written.  It denotes the depth, awareness and musical skills of its creator.  The sounds that he combines with stark and deep-rooted poetic lyrics result in beautiful music of  intricate design.

The audience cheered with exuberance as the band stepped on to the stage. Michael McDermott was accompanied by Danny Westmond on drums, Rene Reyes on guitar, and Dominique Davalos on bass guitar.  The energy flowed from the stage to the audience and back again all night long from the striking of the first note.

The opening selection "Dance With Me" instantly captivated the crowd.  The musicians were hittin' it hard and their playing complimented McDermott's powerfully delivered lyrics.   The following selection was "Arm Yourself". This song pulled the audience closer into the Michael McDermott musical experience.  Other songs performed that were favorites with the sweating masses who clung on every word included:  "Spark", "Sword of Damacles", "Hellfire" and "The Holy Land".

Even the very titles of these songs indicate the intensity and passion that are main ingredients in McDermott's musical recipe.   The band played performed McDermott's now trademark rendition of "When Doves Cry". A very stripped down, acoustic version and is dark and powerfully rhythmic. Wow!  It was indescribably delicious and a real treat to both old and new fans.

Michael McDermott is an amazing and charismic musical artist, as he proved from the moment the onset of the show.  Whether he is playing guitar, tickling the piano keys, or pouring his soul in to a vocal microphone, McDermott's performance is nothing short of intense.

He and his band proved to be skillful and versatile throughout the night, as they provided a masterful mixture of musical styles, running the gamut of blues, rock, pop and ballads.

A magical musical experience was had by all who attended the event. It was an evening to remember and one of which great memories are made.  For more CD and concert info on this remarkable artist, check out the McDermott website
