Mindfield Stage at
Lollapalooza Provides Comic Relief
by sisters, Christine
and Missy Drapac

My youngest sister, Missy, won two
three-day passes to Lollapalooza through a comedy group,
Mission Improvable. Being a virgin
Lollapaloozian, I encouraged her to go at least one of the days because
how many times do you enter a contest and win? She invited me along.
We attended Lollapalooza, Grant Park, Chicago, on Saturday, August 5th.
We arrived just after they opened the
gates at 11am. There was a good sized crowd, but we knew there would
probably be greater numbers later on (and there were!). We decided to
check out the Gift Shop Tent. The prices were do-able, and we picked up
some commemorative apparel.
Our first musical stop was at the Bud
Light Stage to see Nada Surf perform. Their most popular song
incidentally is ‘Popular.’ They did a nice job and kept us and
the other sun-drenched crazies entertained.
We surveyed the food, which was reasonably
priced, anything from Italian beef sandwiches and fries to guacamole and
lavender lemonade. AT&T sponsored an air-conditioned tent which
supplied free battery operated hand-held fans.
We then settled down at the Mindfield
stage, which was the comedy stage. It was a nice little break from the
crowds and speakers.
We watched Second City perform, but
the real entertainment came when Mission Improvable started their
act. After meeting the guys from MI and a photo op, we raced through a
herd of people to see Gnarls Barkley. There was a large crowd
when we got there, so we had to sit off to the side on a hill. However,
being far away did not ruin our view or enjoyment of the show. |
