Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Paramount Theater, Aurora IL January 31, 2004 Review by: Anita Maree Lande Photos by: Niva Bringas
The band took stage at 8:15 pm and led off with "Victim of Circumstance" followed in quick succession by "Cherry Bomb" and "Light of Day." Joan, who is sporting dark hair again, was dressed in black leather pants with a black and red tank top. She told the seated crowd to get up from their seats and not to be shy, and by half way through the night just about the entire crowd was standing and dancing to each song. The current Blackhearts lineup consists of Sami Yaffa (former Hanoi Rocks) on bass guitar, punk-haired Dougie Needles on lead guitar, Thommy Price on drums, and Joan's manager and co-songwriter Kenny Laguna on keys and tambourine. The night was filled with an abundance of classic Jett hits such as –– "Bad Reputation," "Do You Wanna Touch," "I Hate Myself For Loving You," along with her two biggest hits "Crimson and Clover" and "I Love Rock n Roll”. "The highlight for the truly dedicated fans was when a roadie came out on stage and put out a music stand in front of Joan with sheet music on it. Oh Yeah! This meant we were going to hear a new song. In this case, it mean we would hear TWO new songs! The first was the pop-ish "Right in the Middle" and following up was a guitar-driven rocker called, "Turn it Around." Both songs have punch and catchy sing-a-long melodies. Both went over very well with the audience.
Stay tuned… The Blackhearts will be coming to a city near you and kicking out the kind of rock ‘n’ roll show you will not want to miss. Check out www.joanjett.com for the latest news and tour dates. | |||
