TEEN SCENE

A Teenager’s Perspective Of The Arts & Entertainment

With Sarah Lounges

It’s great to be back!...

Let  me tell you, it is really great to be home.  Sure Florida was hot and sunny, while it snowed here, but after spending everyday for a week with the same people, you want to get away from them!  I’m sure the other people feel the same way.  It was nice getting away from home over Spring Break though... and away from deadlines.  But alas, I must return and write another column to be read by you nice people.  It is all worth it though.

PLAY "DRESS UP" @ WWW.gURL.COM

Have you ever had one of those nights when you have nothing to do?  Well, I recently had one of those boring nights, so I went web surfing.  I had seen a few advertisements for -- www.gURL.com -- and decided to give it a try.

When I got to the site I saw this icon that said "Paperdoll Psychology."  I was intrigued, so I checked it out.  It was so much fun!  They have tons of different categories like prom, make-up, thrift store, bathing suit, BRITNEY SPEARS, and tons more!

What you do is you click on a category, like say “thrift store,” and a paperdoll pops up along with a few choices for shirts, pants, shoes and other things depending on the category.  You dress the doll and then the thing tells you something about your personality based on the outfit you put together.  You can do the same category again and again, or just go to a new one.  I like the “glamorpuss” one.  You pick out your face and hairstyle and make-up and it tells you about yourself, I think it is really interesting.  I spent like two and a half hours on that site... yes, I know... I have no life.

One of the only things on the site I had a problem with was the “e-mail this to a friend” part.  Your supposed to be able to send a link via e-mail so that your friends can check out your pic, but when I tried it, it did not work.  Everything else ran smooth though.  You don’t have to wait too long for the screens to pop up either, which is nice.

"MARVEL"-OUS MOVIES COMING SOON!

With the highly anticipated release of “SPIDER-MAN” this May, staring TOBY MAGUIRE and KIRSTEN DUNST, it is no wonder there are already plans to make a few more comic book based movies.  There is currently talk of a “DAREDEVIL” movie and an “INCREDIBLE HULK” movie.

You know, I went on the Hulk Rollercoaster at "Islands of Adventure" while in Florida and it was a lot of fun.  You go really fast and turn upside-down and sideways...it’s great!  In fact, they have a whole Marvel Superhero Island there with shops and rides all relating to Marvel comic book characters.  It’s pretty “super” for those who are deeply into the comic book scene.

There’s also talk of remaking the 1973 sci-fi film “WEST WORLD,” which originally starred YUL BRENNER as the outlaw robot who gets his wires crossed shoots up the guests of a theme park.  This time around, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER is set to star as the malfunctioning Old West gunman.  Ahh-Nold will also serve as the film’s producer.

 KIDS IN THE MOVIES...

FRANKIE MUNIZ, star of FOX’s “Malcolm in the Middle,” will be playing a teen drafted by the government for a covert mission in the new MGM action movie, “AGENT CODY BANKS”  I went to the MGM park too, but did not find it all that interesting.  There really wasn’t that much to do from my perspective. Except for a couple of rides, it is mostly shows and stores.

Kid rapper LIL' BOW WOW will be releasing a movie this summer called “Like Mike.”  It’s about a kid who becomes an NBA star after finding a pair of MICHAEL JORDAN’s sneakers.

With his newfound “star” status firmly established among the teen set, the young rapper is wasting no time cashing in on it.  He will also launch a line of urban-themed kids’ clothes called Lil’ Bow Wow Wear, which will also debut this summer.   Ambitious little guy isn’t he?

 MUSIC NEWS (and...GOSSIP!)

The R&B teen group B2K is about to build on its success by launching a spin-off act – the young girl singer, JHENE,  who appears in B2K’s “Uh Huh” video.

Jhene’s got a five-octave singing voice, great dancing skills and even writes some of her own material.  Epic Records wants to the plug holes left in their young performer roster now that former teen sensations BRANDY and MONICA are grown up and losing ground with the teen set.

MICHAEL JACKSON is said to have recruited silver screen hunk, MEL GIBSON, to star in the music video for his upcoming single, “Unbreaking.”   Comedian CHRIS TUCKER  has already been cast in that same clip, to be directed by “Rush Hour” filmmaker BRETT RATNER.  Ask me sometime about my face to face encounter with Gibson last year at a Chicago restaurant...

It’s been reported that BRITNEY SPEARS has suddenly changed the name of her new Manhattan restaurant from "Pinkey" to "Nyla" (which in case you didn't figure it out...is an anagram combining the initials of New York and Louisiana, which is Britney’s home state).  Since Pinkey was JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE's pet name for Britney, this sudden shift seems to cement the rumor that the young popstar lovebirds have indeed split up.

Well, that is all for this month.  C-ya in May!
