STREET BEAT: Regional Artist Spotlight…Guitarist Cranks Out Albums Or Original Music…RANDY MOOREby Corine Jurgerson
Keep your eyes and ears open for region rocker Randy Moore, guitarist for the band The Camel Toes and emerging solo artist.
Always a fan of music, Moore began his musical career back in the 7th grade when his dad bought him his first guitar – a Fender Telecaster Deluxe. He taught himself to play and began writing songs. While influenced by ax icons such as Ted Nugent and Robin Trower, he preferred to write songs that were all original.
In 1999, Moore joined The Camel Toes, which went on to release a 2002 CD, Toe Jam, and a live DVD the following year, The Camel Toes Live.
Amidst this, Moore decided to explore recording as a solo artist and released his first solo project, Moore To Come in 2001. Four more CD’s would follow, including his latest, Born To Rock, released earlier this year.
Moore does all of his recording in his own personal studio in his home – working with an Akai 16-track recorder and other devices. He has also recently started using the Internet as a means of creating and sharing his music.
While he still favors Nugent and Trower, his current music is more influenced by artists like German guitar god, Michael Schenker, and Dave Mustaine of Megadeth.
Moore described his solo sound as heavy rock. “It has a little bit of metal influence and a little blues. It’s not like a lot of the new stuff out there,” he explained. Each of Moore’s music albums are 100% original. His songs explore topics such as relationships, politics and of course, drinking and partying.
To this point, he has not really pushed to promote himself as a solo artist, but hopes to do so soon. In preparation of this, Moore regularly sends in copies of his CD’s to music publishers, smaller independent labels and locals in hopes of getting noticed and/or picked up. Such is how Midwest BEAT learned of him. Overall, he just wants his music to be heard. Intrigued?
