Things in the Ozzfest camp are never idle
for long...
Ozzfest 2006 line up will have Ozzy, System Of A Down, Hatebreed, Lacuna
Coil, Black Label Society, Atreyu, Bleeding Through, Unearth, Norma
Jean, The Red Chord, Strapping Young Lad, Walls Of Jericho, A Life Once
Lost, All That Remains, Full Blown Chaos and Between The Buried and Me.
I wonder whom Sharon is going to wig out on this year?
On July 16 Ozzfest comes to Tinley Park’s First Midwest Bank
Amphitheater (the old Tweeter Center) and July 23 in Indianapolis at the
Verizon Wireless Music Center.
I was surfing the web and I came across a Lacuna Coil, streaming video
for the song, “Our Truth”, from their most recent recording, Karmcode.
Pretty amazing, but I knew it would be, before it even played. They were
playing in a snow globe with someone looking in. It is a cool concept
and all that snow blowing around is a great backdrop to the music.
Norwegian Black Metal band, Satyricon has recently signed a licensing
(North American) agreement with Century Media Records for their newest
CD, Now Diabolical. The North American version includes a bonus track
and enhanced video and will be in stores by June 13, ’06.
Also out on June 13 is Shadows Fall newest disc, Fallout From the War.
What you get from the 11 tracks include re-recorded versions of past
rare material; new original material and exclusive/brand new cover songs
(one being from Dangerous Toys).
Shadows Fall vocalist, Brian Fair said – “This album is meant to be a
companion piece to our last full-length, The War Within and it contains
6 original songs written during the sessions for that very album.”
Fair also added – “This will be our last release for Century Media, who
as a label have helped us to grow into the band we are and allowed us to
achieve things we never thought possible. We see this as the perfect
finale to our Century Media legacy and we hope you enjoy it.”
New Orleans’ Black Metalers Goatwhore make their Metal Blade debut, A
Haunting Curse, out in September.
DEMETER’S TEASERS
CLAWFINGER
Hate Yourself With Style ~ (Nuclear Blast )
What started in 1988 with two Swedish hospital orderlies doing Rap Metal
with a twist of hip-hop, has culminated to a seventh album, with their
mission still in tact.
Their lyrics continue to tackle the issues concerning bigots, religion,
rape, homophobia, advertising and it’s negative effects on society and
the list goes on.
First up on the disc is “The Faggot In You”. It’s a weird one with the
chorus sounding like a commercial. It makes you uncomfortable to listen
to the lyrical content, but that’s the whole point. It’s meant to make
you think.
Hate Yourself With Style is a great CD and Clawfinger hasn’t changed
their musical style. Think, the rage from Rage Against the Machine, the
thrash of Anthrax and vocals that remind me a little of Ice T.
KINGS X
Ogre Tones ~ (Inside Out )
It’s not metal but damn fine hard rock with all the catchy hooks and
harmonies that made King’s X a memorable band.
After years of producing their own albums, they enlisted the help of
producer Michael Wagener (Ozzy, Alice Cooper, Queen, Dokken and others).
The time saved put the focus back on the creation of the music, and it
shows.
The cut “Freedom” was never officially released on an album until now, a
big plus for us. That King’s X sound I fell for is why this song is so
good.
King’s X has finally returned to what made them so special to begin
with. I’m glad they’re home!
SIEGES SEVEN
The Art Of Navigating By The Stars ~ (Inside Out)
This cult Progressive Rock band has been missing in action for eight
years and made a surprise return to the scene, in 2005.
This is one of the few prog bands that don’t use keyboards. It doesn’t
hurt the overall sound at all, though. They don’t succumb to the usual
formula of song structure and that’s part of the appeal. This CD has its
heavy moments and a lot of atmospheric elements. It’s not your symphony
or orchestra type sound.
Markus Steffen (guitarist) describes the CD this way, “Those who want to
understand what we are doing should put The Art of Navigating The Stars
into their CD player, turn off the lights, put the headphones on and
close their eyes. The album works like a film…but everyone will most
likely see a different one.”
When you need to stop the world and get off and mellow and reflect this
is the disc to do it to. Think of tidbits of Rush/Triumph on Valium.
Till Next time…ONE NATION UNDERGROUND!
