METAL NEWS YOU CAN USE

Last month I had the pleasure of attending, yet another Heavycore Poser Roast, at The Canopy Club, in Urbana.  Always a good time and I get turned on to some astonishing new music.  Poser Roast staples, Low Twelve and Lividity totally shredded, as usual.

Also on the bill for more brutal metal assaults, Skullpl8, Colossus, Skeptik, Genghis Khan (includes 2 former members of Alchymist), and Slave Driver, an unexpected treat of gothic/black metal, who replaced Pist, on the bill.

Germany’s Metal Hammer readers voted Unearth #1 in the “Newcomer Of The Year 2004”, (although they have been together just shy of 7 years).

Ole Bang, the manager of King Diamond, acknowledged that King Diamond would not be in Europe, this year, for a tour.  Instead, writing is in progress for the next album.

Goatwhore is not yet in the studio, but is working on new material for their Metal Blades Records debut release. Now doing a few week end shows, till the years end.

NEW ALBUMS TO MELT TO...

There is some powerful new metal now out in store folks – Nagalfar’s Pariah, Arch Enemy’s Doomsday Machine, DemiricousOne (Death Metal from Indy), and Nevermore’s Godless Endeavor (which vocalist Warren Dane says… “This the most ripping guitar work we’ve ever recorded.”)

Also from Nevermore is Enemies of Reality (Remixed & Remastered), with three bonus videos.  All are out now.

The Crown can be yours on August 23, 14 Years Of No Tomorrow 3-DVD set.

            King’s X will be releasing a 3-CD Box Set with Manic/Bulbous/Tapehead, on  September 20.

Symphorce’s Godspeed, recorded at House Of Music Studios in Germany, hits the store on September 6.  The European release will be a special limited first edition with a bonus DVD.  Included is a video clip for, “Cause of Laughter” and live backstage footage.  Travis Smith will do the cover artwork, whose also done covers for Nevermore and Iced Earth.

DEMETER’S TEASERS

BLEED THE SKY

Paradigm In Entropy – Nuclear Blast

This is the 10-song, debut from the Orange County, CA, 6-piece band.  This is what I term, Mature Metal. Think Nevermore, Hypocrisy and a hint of Meshuggah. It’s a powerhouse of a CD; refined and ready to take metal to the next step in its continual evolution.

Very intense and intelligent with lots of groove and sprinkled with melody, intertwined with a Hardcore/Death Metal vocal delivery.  All the thick riffs almost make you woozy and I would think their live show would be killer.  These guys have a promising future, ahead of them!

GIZMACHI

The Imbuing – Big Orange Clown/Sanctuary

Gizmachi is the inaugural band on this newly formed label, founded by M. Shawn Crahan (Clown #6 of Slipknot).  It’s also the first project he produced.

This 4-piece, since 1999, hail from upstate New York and never seemed to fit in the Orange County scene.  Good things come to those who wait; them and us.  Initially the CD was meant to be an EP but with eight songs, it was enough for a full album.  Their music is very layered and sounds like Slipknot, Fear Factory without the industrial components and Soulfly.  They plan to spend the next 2 years touring, to promote the disc and maybe we will get lucky enough to catch their show.

What a weird coincidence that Gizmachi and Bleed The Sky sound an awful lot alike and they got the Orange County going for them, on opposite coasts and then you throw in the Big Orange Clown thing.  What’s up with the Orange?

This band is a little more radio friendly.  If both these debuts are the foreplay, I can’t wait for the climax!

KINRICK

Sense Your Darkness – Leviathan Records

X-Firewind vocalist, Stephen Fredrick and Vainglory guitarist, Corbin King (notice the combo of last names to create band name) from the Atlanta area, team up to bring you some Old School/Traditional Metal.

Riffs that stick to you like glue and licks that keep licking.  Just like the 2nd cut, “Throughout All Time” and its lyrics: “I am the fire burning inside your mind.”  You can’t get it out of your head.  If you like Overkill, Candlemass and Saxon, you will love this 10-song CD.

AXEL RUDI PELL

The Ballads III – SPV/GMBH

Pell has created a compilation of the most recent and best ballads he’s done thus far, in this continuing saga.  Three new tracks include an acoustic version of “Forever Angel” and his Rainbow cover “The Temple Of The King”.

Since 1991, Pell had been a German fixture on the Melodic Hard Rock scene.  If you like ballads, this will be right up your alley and if you don’t, don’t bother.

I can’t be objective because I’m not a ballad kind of girl, so nothing even faintly intrigued me.  If you’re lucky, you might get a roll in the hay out of it.  It’s definitely make-out music for the mellow at heart.  I’d rather do the horizontal hustle with something a lot heavier!

     Till Next time…ONE NATION UNDERGROUND!
