SEVEN BY SEVENby Corine Jurgerson
Fans of acoustic-modern rock won’t want to miss Seven By Seven (formerly known as A-Train), a talented foursome from Chicago’s South Suburbs.
Seven By Seven are Mike Green on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Aaron Harris on lead guitar and vocals, Phil Reiner on bass guitar and Dean Adamczyk on drums.
Seven By Seven was formed in 2002 by a group of musicians who were all part of different rock bands and wanted to put together an acoustic-rock band as a weeknight side project.
As word spread about the band and the acoustic-rock genre became more popular, Seven By Seven began adding more original songs to their shows instead of playing covers and began to develop a solid fan base.
By 2005, the band members had shifted their focus from their other bands to focusing full-time on Seven By Seven. The band’s overall style can be described as rock flavored with the band’s eclectic mix of influences.
Front man Green is the primary songwriter for the band, penning tunes about everyday life situations such as love and loss, drinking and “hooking up”. The musical parts of the band’s songs are a collaborative effort by all members of the band.
Expect to hear everything from a little bit of reggae to pop, acoustic/college rock, classic rock and even a touch of metal and blues when this versatile band steps out at Star Plaza Theater.
Currently, Seven By Seven are positioning themselves to rise to the national level. Their recent name change signifies the band’s change in direction and aims to give the band a “fresh start”.
Seven By Seven has already landed sponsorships from Dean Markley Strings and Accessories, Samick Guitars and Pro Mark Drumsticks.
Recently, the band recorded their first full-length CD, which should be released by spring/summer 2006.
They’ve already shared stage with national acts Seven-Mary-Three, Local H, Jackyl and others. Members of the band have also performed at venues like House of Blues, Double Door, Metro and The Star Plaza Theater.
Seven By Seven have also taken their sounds across the country, performing in cities from New York to San Diego. When they’re not working to promote their upcoming record, you might see them taking part in charity events.
In October 2003, Seven By Seven performed for 28 hours non-stop as part of a world-record attempting concert to raise funds for leukemia research. Although the band did not manage to break the record, they were still able to generate substantial funds for the research organization.
“We’re focusing on doing shows with as many other region artists as we can,” said Harris. The band is also planning a spring/summer college tour.
Seven By Seven is looking forward to playing in the Region Rumble because of the opportunity to play on the Star Plaza stage.
“We are happy to be part of something that supports local music and the region and are looking forward to playing with other region bands,” Harris explained.
