Who says you can’t relive the good ol’ days?  Northwest Indiana’s Lazer Band is solid proof that you should look back on the past and you can turn back time!

Once upon a time in the late ‘70s, the Lazer Band was formed by five musicians who shared a common interest: playing great rock music together on stage.

Influenced by acts such as Led Zeppelin and AC/DC, Lazer Band’s hard rockin’ sounds quickly became a favorite in Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana – so much so that they landed a record deal with Erect Records and distribution through Polygram.  This record contract would spawn two national albums before the band broke up in 1982.

Fast forward to 2005.  Original Lazer Band guitarist Garrett Dompke has a chance encounter with a guy by the name of Denny Moss who was a fan of the Lazer Band back in the day, and actually had once performed the band’s material in his own cover band.

Conversations between the two carried on and before long Moss had convinced Dompke to revive the band.

Guitarists Dompke and Moss recruited Wally Veden, one of the band’s original drummers.  Veden brought on board vocalist Chad Holm, whom he plays with in another project.

Chris Glanz’s bass talent was the last ingredient added to the mix that allowed in the latest incarnation of the Lazer Band to be born this past Spring.

“We’re excited to be involved with the local music scene and to be back in the region,” said Dompke.  “The chemistry between the band members now is just as good as it was between the original members,” Dompke continued.  “We’re excited just to be able to practice and play together.  The sound is amazing.”

Though the band has gone through many lineup changes, but the passion for the music is still in place.

Former fans of Lazer Band can expect to hear some of their old favorites as well as new material when the group hits stage at Star Plaza on January 14th.  One thing that hasn’t changed is the band’s desire to create music that will please the fans.

“If we write a song and you don’t like it, we’ll get rid of it and write something that you do like,” Dompke explained.  “We’re not trying to take the artistic route.  Our music is all about having fun and writing songs that the crowd is going to enjoy.”

The band’s song writing efforts are collaborative, though vocalist Chad Holm writes the majority of the lyrics.  The Lazer Band’s songs describe a lot of everyday life situations, from lost love to what goes on at a bar or at the beach.

Currently, the Lazer Band is focusing on preparing for the Midwest BEAT’s 7th Annual Region Rumble as well as positioning themselves to land another record deal.

Check them out and decide for yourself whether or not they have the power to make history repeat itself.
