THE RECS

For the guys of the Crown Point, Indiana-based band, The Recs, it is all about rock ‘n’ roll and just having a good time .

If you haven’t yet heard the sounds of this young band, you’re in for quite a treat. According to lead guitarist Sam Vicari, their sound is “rock with a little bit of blues and rockabilly influence.”

The Recs are: Cody Nelson on vocals and guitar, Vicari on lead guitar, Eric Hanus on bass and Ryan Walsh on drums.

The four friends formed The Recs – which stands for Ryan Eric Cody Sam – in the summer of 2004 after playing together in the Crown Point High School Jazz Ensemble.

Their influences are varied; the guys cite bands such as The Donnas, Rush, Jet and The White Stripes as key role models for molding their sound.

Vocalist/guitarist Nelson writes the majority of The Recs’ song lyrics, detailing situations such as broken relationships and general frustration with life and what It’s like to be young.

Since forming, they’ve recorded a self-titled EP and have played shows in local venues such as Java Jo’z, Pop Culture Coffeehouse and Java Jim’s. The guys even placed second in a battle of the bands competition in Rensselaer.

Clearly, The Recs have a bright future ahead of them. So what’s next on the horizon? Over the holiday break, the guys plan to record another EP.

Plans are also being made for a winter tour of the Midwest and of course, summer tour dates.

“Overall, I really hope that in the future, we just all stay friends and continue to play and be happy,” said Vicari. “We’d like to build a strong local following and hopefully impact people to enjoy all types of music.”

All in all, expect to hear straight up raw rock ‘n’ roll from these ‘self-proclaimed (and confirmed…) “very nice guys.”
