MUSIC ON TAP
Hello once again to all of you faithful readers of the Midwest BEAT, and thanks for stopping by my little piece of newsprint to check out all things new in the world of music.
I hope everyone had a good holiday season, and that your 2005 is going well thus far. Let’s get down to business.
FEBRUARY 1...
The original line-up of Motley Crue has returned… again… with a new record. Actually, it’s just another “Greatest Hits” compilation featuring 3 new songs. Red, White & Crue is a double disc set that features songs from all periods of the band’s 25 year career. The album rounds out with 2 new Crue songs and one new Crue cover tune… Ray: Songs That Inspired the Movie is a collection of works from the late Ray Charles… The Roots will deliver Roots: A Sonic Event… All The Best will be available from Tina Turner… the Cowboy Junkies will hit the Open Road on both CD and DVD… Seal has a “Best of...” due out… Terry Bozzio will deliver fans some Prime Cuts… and Kylie Minogue will give us what is billed as Ultimate Kylie. Boy, I’ll wait with baited breath for that one...yeah...like we need a mega-dose of Kylie. FEBRUARY 8…
There is a series of roughly 20 live CD’s that are due out on the Surf Dog (Ada) label that are recordings of the Stray Cats shows from last year’s European tour. All from July 2004, the shows were recorded in such cities as Amsterdam, Brussels, London and Barcelona. Country is riding high this month with releases on the 8th from Trick Pony and Lee Ann Womack… K-Ci & Jojo will have a Greatest Hits package ready this month… a bonus edition CD of the Beastie Boys To The 5 Boroughs will be re-released… 3 Doors Down will count out Seventeen Days, that is catching heat from some journalists for not updating their sound and jumping on the new-wave retro wagon. I say kudos to the Doors boys for keep true to what they think their music should be... The metal band Crowbar has Lifesblood for the Downtrodden ready for release… Rod Stewart will engage in some Foolish Behavior, but not with Jim Hillegonds.
FEBRUARY 15...
If you like R.E.M. you may want to rush out on the 15th to buy all of their albums… again… since they are all being re-released with bonus tracks… Goldfinger will serve the public with a Disconnection Notice… Home and Away: The Complete Recordings 1960-1970 will be released from the legendary Del Shannon, who left behind so much more than just “Runaway.” It’s about time his treasure trove of great material saw the light of day. BEAT boss, Tom Lounges, a big fan of Shannon will no doubt be out to score that collection. Canned Heat, who will be a quarter of the line-up at the VH1 Presents tour coming to Star Plaza on March 11, will drop Then and Now: 40 Years of Boogie… American Head Charge will begin Feeding the day after Valentine’s Day.
FEBRUARY 22 ...
Bassist Billy Sheehan (of David Lee Roth and Mr. Big fame) returns with Cosmic Troubadour… (hed)pe will attempt to Raise Hell this month when their new LP arrives…
Journey guitarist Neal Schon has his I on U… Bo Diddley will release Vamp on the 22nd… Come In and Burn: Sessions will be available from Rollins Band… Collections are on the way from Steve Vai and Widespread Panic… and DIO has Evil or Divine ready to go to stores very soon! That’s it kids. I’ll see you next month.
