While they may be a long way from Memphis,  of planning to converge on the Tweeter Center in Tinley Park, Illinois on July 15 should realize that they owe a debt of thanks to the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll.

When Elvis Presley went to the Sunshine State in 1961 to film his movie, “Follow That Dream,” he met and a then 11-year-old, toe-headed Floridian kid named Tom Petty.  The meeting inspired the lad to chase a dream of his own.

Buying a guitar and forming a series of high school garage band, Tom Petty has never looked back. The rest as they say...is history!

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are in the midst of a 40-plus city tour that brings them to our region in mid-July for what is expected to be one of the best-attended single artist concerts of the summer.

A source at Chicago’s Clear Channel office cited this month’s Petty concert as one of the Tweeter Center’s biggest ticket sellers of the 2005 summer season.

Similar reports have been made in other markets as well, with Michael Rappino, the CEO of Clear Channel Music Group going on record as saying –– “Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will be one of our biggest amphitheater tours this summer.  Their tours have always been enormously successful and this one is shaping up to be ne of their biggest yet.”

Petty’s two-hour plus show is rich in hits from throughout his 30-year career as a recording artist.  “All the favorites are promised to be there –– “American Girl,” “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” “Refugee,” “Learning To Fly,” “You Don’t Know How It Feels”, “Runnin’ Down A Dream” and a few newer numbers from his outstanding 2002 release, The Last DJ.
