!HERO… An Old Story Told Anew!

“!HERO” is a musical and literary re-telling of the life of Jesus Christ posing the pretense -- “What if He were born in Bethlehem... Pennsylvania?”  Set in early 21st Century America, Hero (Jesus) lives out his ministry in present day new York City in a world that has not yet seen the Messiah.

Created by music industry veteran Eddie DeGarmo, “!HERO” confronts the audience with what can best be described as “Jesus Christ Superstar” for the MTV generation -- centering on the relevance of the Gospel to youth living in a today’s culture.

“All of my career has been geared around reaching people with the message of Christ,” says DeGarmo.  “I wanted to create a different vehicle for a connection to the Gospel.  ‘!HERO’ is that vehicle.”

What began as a Rock Opera has developed into a multi-media experience of the Gospel story –– expressed in a music CD, live performance tour, a novel trilogy, audio books, comics and graphic novel.

“!HERO” includes a 33-song double-disc CD, produced by Grammy winning Pete Stewart and co-written by DeGarmo and Bob Farrell.  This rock opera is hitting the the road with an all-star touring ensemble that features the talents of some of Christian music’s top talents.

Among them are: Michael Tait (DC Talk) as Hero, Rebecca St. James as Maggie, and Mark Stuart (Audio Adrenaline) as Petrov, as well as performances by T-Bone, Grits, and John Cooper (Skillet), Matt Hammitt (Sanctus Real), Nirva, and others.

The dramatic multi-media tour experience combines the music with stunning visuals integrating video and graphics with a dramatic set and high quality lighting.

You have the chance this month to check out this great show.  “!HERO” is coming to Star Plaza Theatre on November 17th for a 7:00 pm performance.

Tickets are $23.00 per person, but groups of 15 or more can get tickets for $20.00. It sounds like a great time. I know I am for sure going!

STATIC X...YES!  STATIC FROM SECURITY...NO!

On October 17th I had the pleasure of checking out the 94.7 The Zone-sponsored show at Hobart’s Omega Sports Complex.  It featured Skrape and Soil as the opener bands and Static X as the headliner.

I must say, that it was a really awesome place to hold a concert! And I hear they are going to start doing more of them there, featuring both national and local groups. Very cool indeed!

During the show, they offered three free wall climbs per-person for those with wristbands (which you received at the door when you handed them your ticket) and afterward they opened up the haunted house that was set up and that too was free with the price of your concert ticket.  We got all that, plus a three band show for just $20.00!

So yeah, the concert was definitely a “deer-in-the-headlights” type of experience... because during the first song they completely blinded the crowd by washing us with super bright lights.  Periodically, they flashed them, and it was like knives stabbing us in the eyes. Oddly enough, nobody in the crowd besides my friend and I seemed bothered by this stabbing light.  Oh well...

Anyway... Static X’s audience was very enthusiastic. There was a whole lot of screaming and lots of kids tossing “devil horns” in the air.

Heh, I will admit I felt a bit out of place at first, but everyone seemed to be having a really great time.  The only really bad thing about the evening was the bozo security guard.  I went outside to get some air, because it was sweltering inside with all the people and lights.

Even though re-entry was permitted, he gave me a world of grief about getting back in, even with my wristband!  After much arguing I found my way back in, but man did that jerk spoil the mood of the evening.

I am totally stoked about more concerts at this facility, but I hope Omega’s management hires friendlier security and train them enough to understand the concept of a wristband. This guy with the “Billy Badass”-complex was rude not only to me, but to others who likewise stepped out to get air, grab a smoke or make phone calls to their parents.

I wish every one of you a Happy Turkey Day!
