ULTIMATE RENAISSANCE…
Marshall Field’s, “The
Ultimate Renaissance” Weekend launched the reinvented State
Street Store with a first-ever Vertical
Fashion Show and parties that ran all day long.
Marshall Field’s has undergone a massive transformation and
celebrated with a series of unique events. A troupe
of 14 world class athletes from Europe, doubling as models performed the
world’s most unique fashion show by “walking” down the outside of
the Marshall Field’s State Street store.
This was the first ever Vertical Fashion show production in the
US. Brooke
Burke, swimsuit model / “E!”
personality, was on hand as celebrity host. The band BOND
performed, NY Times best selling author Nicholas
Sparks signed copies of his latest book, “The
Wedding,” in the store’s lower level as the shopping party
festivities continued on well into the night. Shoppers stood in line
for an apple martini with the glass rimmed in cinnamon, and feasted on
the food buffets throughout the store. Across the street at Gallery 37 the party continued with Chicago-based band –– Poi
Dog Pondering –– delighting fans with their upbeat music.
FIELDS
“FLOODS” WITH FASHION…
Aspiring and seasoned
Chicago designers flooded the Marshall Field’s State Street store to
present their wears to a panel of fashion experts, including Marshall
Field’s buyers and Emmy Award-winning costume designer for HBO’s “Sex and the
City,” Patricia Field.
The panel
selected one winner each from the categories of accessories and
ready-to-wear. Winning
designers received $1,000 each and their collections will be sold in
2004 at Marshall Field’s State Street store, the second largest
department store in the world. Paul Phillips from
Chicago won for his metal jewelry designs.
LYING
LIKE AL & DRIVING LIKE JERRY…
Al Franken discussed and signed
his book –– “Lies and Lying
Liars who Tell Them: A Fair and balanced Look At The Right” ––
at Border’s State Street store. Over
800 people turned up for the event. Driver of the Springer-sponsored NASCAR WW car, Kevin Richards, gave the Chicago talk show host and car racing fan, Jerry Springer a few quick driving points! ALBRIGHT
IS ALRIGHT WITH FANS…
Former Secretary of
State Madeleine Albright
signed her book, “Madam
Secretary,” at Border’s Michigan Avenue Store.
CHICAGO
INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL…
“The
Human Stain” was the official selection for opening night of
the Chicago International Film
Festival that featured a tribute to the film’s director,
three-time Academy Award winner Robert
Benton. Red carpet arrivals at
the Chicago Theatre were: Wentworth
Miller, Anna Deavere Smith, Gary Sinise, Tom Rosenberg (producer), Robert
Benton, Michael Kutza (Chgo Int’l. Film Fest founder) and Anthony
Hopkins... Gary Sinise was also onstage at
the free Sting concert “Live
at the Blue 5” held at Grant Park.
Fans were stunned to see Robert
Downey Jr. arrive with his girlfriend Sue
soon followed by Oprah Winfrey
hanging out with Sting’s wife, Trudie
Styler. The film festival
also honored Taye Diggs, who
was named the 2003 Black
Perspectives Honoree. He
made his film debut in 1998 opposite Angela
Bassett in “How Stella Got Her Grove Back.” His films have included – “GO,”
“The Best Man,” “Malibu’s Most Wanted” and “Chicago.” Last
year, Diggs starred in two films at the Chicago International Film
Festival, “Just a Kiss”
and “Brown Sugar.” He
began in musical theater and has had TV roles on “New
York Undercover,” “Law & Order,” “Ally McBeal” and “The West Wing.” The Black Perspectives program was created to showcase the creativity and diverse voices of Afrocentric filmmakers. It honors those who break barriers, offer fresh ideas and point the way to the future – it celebrates legends and emerging artists alike. Past honorees include: Halle Berry, Charles S. Dutton, Laurence Fishburne, Morgan Freeman, Pam Grier and Spike Lee. |
