Midwest BEAT & Night Rock Scared Up Rock ‘N’ Roll Fun For Halloween
by Tom Lounges
On October 28, Midwest BEAT Magazine and Night Rock Radio (X-ROCK 103.9) teamed up for their “Second Annual Halloween Rock Haunt” over at Second Dimension Night Club in Schererville, Indiana.
The talent line-up was classic and scared up a good time as ghosts, ghouls, zombies, naughty girl scouts and giant feminine hygiene pads danced, drink, hoop’d and holler’d.
Opening the night up strong was BELIEVER, a relatively new Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne tribute group from ‘da region’ who did an outstanding job getting the party started with a set of choice selections from the Oz songbook.
Next up was the reunited and resurrected late 1970s/early 1980s club group – DYLLYNGYR – who made their first “official” night club return on this night with a hot mix of vintage originals and classic rock covers. The band features three of the four original members – vocalist Billy Rak, guitarist Zon Haralovich and bassist Joe “The Grunt” Grunstein – with slammin’ hot drummer Maria Garcia on board to help teach the old dogs some new tricks.
DYLLYNGYR is back to writing originals and has some very tasty new songs that they recently debuted acoustically while guesting on the Night Rock Radio show. Expect a new studio CD from the band in Spring of ’06.
The sonically spectacular pro-grog group, KAMERA, closed the concert superbly with anhour-plus set of original music, culled largely from their recently released “X-Posed” album, which is getting heavy play on the Sunday evening Night Rock radio program.
Lots of great costumes were walked through as patron and guests voted for their favorites with applause, as the line up of contestant eventually was narrowed down to the three final winners.
Congrats to Larry “Turtle” Bapst who took first place honors in the costume contest and took home the $100 cash prize for his highly original and time-consuming to make – “man in the Grim Reaper’s box” – costume.
Thanks to all who came out and special thanks to make-up/effects artist Doug Goins, who not only supplied Hegewisch Lisa and myself with costumes and custome make-up work for the event, but also donated a decapitated zombie head film prop for our free “get some head tonight” raffle.
Congratulations to Midwest BEAT reader and Dyllyngyr fan, Stan Gaskey, on winning the highly collectable and uniquely original Goins’ creation that night as our raffle winner.
I look forward to scaring up more fun like this party next year in October! Rock on everybody! |
