CRAWLIN' THE WEB
with Kelly J. Calton
While America was taken by surprise with the tragedy on
9-11, we are
finding ways to heal ourselves. The net has an outpouring of sites
dedicated
to show our fears, grief, and vengeful side. As we stand together, we also
heal each other.
www.cnn.com
If there would happen to be any other people out there that
are totally
out of the mainstream and do not have cable or satellite, cnn.com is the best
place to get the low down on American’s New War. MSNBC and the like are
ok,
but CNN constantly updated their site those first few days after the attack,
and got info out there quickly.

Have you got any of those funny pictures in your email yet?
Pictures like one with the guy burning American flag and catching himself on
fire, or perhaps the dog taking a dump on a newspaper with a big picture of
Osama Bin Laden? I guarantee you
haven’t seen all of them yet. Almostaproverb.com
is LOADED with these pictures graphic artists like myself have cut, copied and
manipulated to make American’s smile again.
All the war plane ones, the Bert and Osama picture, and countless others
are on this page to view.

This is quite possibly one of the coolest sites I have seen
so far. This
site is ran by a 25 year old stay-at-home mom. What she does is matches
American citizens up with soldiers who are overseas, and would like to hear
from people back home. You can write a soldier, or send them a care
package.
The woman who runs the site is named Sarah. It is
a free service and
has one goal: to brighten the spirits of the men and women who are
fighting
for our country. It is a way to let them know we are behind them and that
we
care! Thank god for people like Sarah who are doing all they can to help
the
men and women who are fighting for the freedom we hold so dear.
www.helping.org
Ok, so you have already waited in line to give blood
for hours, and went
and saw a benefit show for the people in New York and Washington. What's
next? You can check out sites like helping.org. This is the Mother
of all
of the donation sites. If you want to donate to the children who lost
their
parents, there's a link for that. If you want to donate to the people in
Washington, there is a link for that. Everything is segregated into nice
categories depending on where you want to give. Dig deep.
Helping.org also has many other sites for organizations
that have been
taken for granted for to long. It has links for the Red Cross, Salvation
Army, Goodwill, and many more. You can also go to the firefighter and
police
sites from helping.org. Another cool feature is you can find ways to
volunteer right at home. Their advanced search engine sets you up with
charities in your area that need help.
That's it for this month. Next month I will
discuss the advantages of
software such as Bryce and Macromedia Director to enhance your webpages.
Until then, happy surfing!
