New Music Coming Your Way

by  EDWARD SCOTT

OCTOBER 4

Fiona Apple will resurface this month with a new LP, Extraordinary Machine.  Her first release in six years, the album arrives with quite a bit of critical speculation regarding the quality of the material, since the release date had been pushed back.  Only time will tell if Apple’s third release will achieve the same critical success as her previous two.

With the first reunion shows a success, Cream is releasing the CD and DVD recorded at the performances at London’s Royal Albert Hall.  The reunion marked the first time that the band had performed together since their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, and both the CD and DVD are said to be exceptional quality.

If neither of those releases sparks your musical interests, you can keep your ears open for new music from Nickelback, Jimmy Eat World, Sara Evans, Bela Fleck, Ian Anderson, Soulfly, George Thorogood, and Twisted Sister.

OCTOBER 11

Hanson will be releasing The Best of Live and Electric this month.  The album features some unreleased gems, live cuts, and a couple of choice cover songs.

Dolly Parton will unveil Those Were the Days on the 11th.  The album is a collection of classic ‘60s cover songs, and features such notable guests as Judy Collins and Roger McGuinn.

Christmas albums are already beginning to arrive in stores. October 11th is the date for holiday LP’s to arrive from Alicia Keys, Reverend Horton Heat, and Tony Orlando & Dawn.

OCTOBER 18

The holidays are on the artist’s minds so much that the Christmas albums are spilling over into the third Tuesday of October.  You can look for holiday collections from Brian Setzer and Brian Wilson this month as well

If you’re not in the holiday spirit just yet, maybe the new albums from Dishwalla, Ashlee Simpson, or the DVD from Queen & Paul Rodgers will better suit your taste.

OCTOBER 25

Aerosmith will release a live album this month.  Rockin’ the Joint- Live from the Hard Rock Hotel was recorded back in 2002, and boasts an 11-song track list full of the band's hits.

For those of you who could not catch Motley Crue on their sold out Carnival of Sins reunion tour, the 25th is your lucky day.  A concert DVD from the tour is already on its way to store shelves.  The 3-hour plus package will be presented in high-def, 5.1 surround sound, and is full of extras that every Crue fan will enjoy.

To round out the month, look for new releases from Niacin, Faith Evans, They Might Be Giants, and Marty Stuart in addition to all of the others listed above.
