RANTIN’ ‘N’ RAGIN’ ...

A well-deserved head banging is in order and it can’t be soon enough (never is).  Metal take me away…

Belated Rant:  What the hell was Rolling Stone thinking when they came out with “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time” issue?  Bruce Springsteen with 8 albums listed, excuse me? His initials are B.S. for a reason!! For the most part, the albums picked were right on but where was Motorhead, Pantera and so many others.  They surely could have dumped the Sinead O’Connor album.

Something else equally disturbing is the amount of albums from various decades.  The ‘70s have had 190 entries but the ‘90’s had only 60.  Flavor of the Week and the mainstream scene, sure had taken a toll on the music scene.

BAND NAMES YOU GOTTA LOVE...

Raging Slab, Bongzilla, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Ultraspank, Trunkmuscle, Dog Fashion Disco and Klank...

METAL NEWS YOU CAN USE!

You know spring has arrived when the OZZFEST dates are announced.  Mark your Metal calendars for August 21, Chicago, IL at the Tweeter Center and August 24, Indianapolis, IN at the Verizon Wireless Music Center.

The main stage bands are: Ozzy, Super Joint Ritual, Slayer, Dimmu Borgir, Black Label Society and Judas Priest (featuring Rob Halford back on the mic).

Hatebreed, Slipknot and Lamb of God will headline the second stage and Bleeding Through, God Forbid, Every Time I Die, Unearth, Atreyu, and Lacuna Coil will be the bands rotating, on the second stage.

Lamb Of God recently released a new CD, As The Palaces Burn, with 10 brutal new songs, on Epic Records.

Also in stores now is Lamb Of God’s first DVD, Terror And Hubris, chock full of the usual interviews, videos and live performances at the New England Metal Fest 2003 and Hellfest 2003.

The band says, “…a brief glimpse into the chaos that is Lamb of God. No one was ever supposed to know about us.”

The band has been together since the early ‘90’s, when Metal went underground, “We were doing this long before anybody noticed and we expect to still be doing this long after anyone cares.”

Metal Blade artists Beyond the Embrace will unleash their new CD, Insect Song, May 18 and will be on the road for a while supporting Prong.  They stop in Chicago Heights, May 9th at Oasis One Sixty.

Hell, I didn’t even know Prong was still out and about kickin’ ass.  I’ve always loved Prong.  Remember the song, “Prove You Wrong”?

Machine Head is gearing up for their newest onslaught of Metal with Through the Ashes of Empires, due out in the good ol’ U.S.A. April 20.

Prophecy is the latest offering from Soulfly.  This CD includes five bonus live tracks.  Have you noticed that on every Soulfly album the line-up changes?  According to Max Cavalera it will probably continue that way.  To see a new video and hear new music, point your browser to: www.soulfly.com/ecard

In related news Nailbomb’s Point Blank CD originally released in 1994, featuring Max Cavalera (Soulfly/ Sepultura) and Alex Newport (Fudge Tunnel) has been remastered and available once again.  Of course you get the bonus tracks, new liner notes and artwork.

Also re-released is Obituary’s The End Complete/World Demise, part of Roadrunner Records’ Two From the Vault series.

Here’s another one, the re-issue of Voivod’s War and Pain, originally released in ‘84, this is the official “20th Anniversary” edition.  The 3-CD set includes all lyrics/photos and other bonus material.  The third disc is a CD Rom with a biography circa 1985 and comments 2003.   Fall in love all over again with songs such as --“Suck Your Bone,” “Iron Gang,” “Black City, Blower,” “Warriors of Ice” -- and many more.  Unfortunately no release date as of yet.

What a great treat for those who hadn’t discovered these classics, the first time around.

Part of the Brutal Domination Tour 2004 is making a stop in Central Illinois, this August, at the Central Illinois Metalfest.  Who’s gonna blow your head clean off?  How about Internal Suffering (Columbia), Incinerate (U.S.A.), Stabwound (Sweden) and Emeth (Belgium).

Rockford boys, The Heavils recently played the Minnesota Metal Fest in March and will be playing the New England Metal and Hardcore Fest on May 1st.  The fun doesn’t stop there; they have been added to three dates off the Jagermeister Tour with Fear Factory, Slipknot and Chimaira.

In May the newest CD hits the streets, title yet to be announced.  If that wasn’t enough, starting in April at West Palm Beach, Florida they will be on tour and during part of that time, on the road supporting label mates Six Feet Under.  I thought I was busy…

The Crown calls it quits, after 14 years together.  The band says too many tours gone badly and lack of professional tour arrangements is maybe the main reason for giving up.  A big ‘horns down’ to coming home from tours with empty pockets, equipment falling apart and a pile of bills on the doorstep.   “We made six killer albums, we did stuff our way and we sure paid our dues. Or as we say to conclude usual setbacks, ‘we came, we saw and we **** up’”.

Till Next Time…KEEPING METAL OUT OF THE MORGUE!
