Hello again to all of the faithful readers of the Midwest BEAT.   Thanks again for flipping the pages and for stopping by.  We’ve got a lot to talk about, so let’s get right to it…
     
As this issue hits your hands, there are some releases from the end of March that may be of interest to you.  
 
The blues-cover album from Aerosmith, Honkin’ on Bobo, is in stores as the band is now on the road promoting it… The Trip, from Dirty Vegas, features remixes of INXS, U2, Tears for Fears and Run DMCMr. Naked is sporting Thongs ‘n’ PumpsSoulfly’s long-awaited new one, Prophecy, is now on store shelves.
 

APRIL 6...

     
 Cult-favorites They Might Be Giants are trying to prove that their art is IndestructibleTodd Rundgren calls out the Liars of the world with his new LP… Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio is releasing his solo effort, Seis De Mayo
 
Night Ranger and Damn Yankees bassist/vocalist Jack Blades likewise ventures out on his own, with his self-titled album… Debbie Harry and company will cast the Curse of Blondie upon us… Chicago natives Local H are wondering Whatever Happened to P.J. Soles?…  And the infamous Barry Manilow will be releasing 2 Nights Live!, along with a DVD titled, Ultimate MANILOW! for your listening and viewing pleasure.
 

APRIL 13...

     
      With Guns n’ Roses on a “hiatus” (for lack of a better term), Axl Rose’s guitar-slinger Buckethead found ample time to release a solo LP.  Population Override will drop on the Ion label… A CD/DVD combo recorded live at Billy Bob’s Texas is on the way from country music legend and Farm Aid founder, Willie NelsonJoe Satriani is wondering if there Is Love In Space?Slow Pain plays the L.A. Blues… There will be some re-issues from legendary artists such as Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Tower of Power and comedy great Redd Foxx this month… And The Vestals will unveil a self-titled album.
 

APRIL 20...

     
KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons will release his second solo LP this month, his first since 1978.   Cleverly titled, Asshole, it features songs co-written with the likes of Bruce and Bob Kulick, the late Frank Zappa, and Bob Dylan… that’s right…Bob Dylan!  Songs on the album come from as far back as 1977, and there is a surprising range of cover songs featured as well…
 
To tie in, a KISS tribute record is on the way.  That album is called, Spin The Bottle , and features performances from Doug Pinnick (King’s X), Tommy Shaw (Styx), Mark Slaughter (Slaughter), Page Hamilton (Helmet), Lemmy (Motorhead), Kip Winger (Winger) and Dee Snider (Twisted Sister).
 
Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society will release Hangover Music, Vol. VIMachinehead will travel Through The Ashes of Empires to deliver their new LP… Sevendust has a live acoustic album ready for release… And Jim Hillegonds will unveil his long awaited side project, titled Things I’ve Found In My Hair, which features a tribute to William “The Refrigerator” Perry
 

APRIL 27...

     
As April draws to a close, we have a few more releases to mention… Everlast will deliver White Trash BeautifulKing’s X drummer Jerry Gaskill has his solo effort ready.  Come Somewhere was produced by Gaskill’s bandmate, Ty Tabor… former New Kids on the Block member, Joey McIntyre has a new album titled 8:09, which I think is a countdown clock to show how many minutes of fame he has left… And the DVD of the KISS tribute mentioned earlier will follow the audio release by one week.
