Hello again to the faithful readers of the
Midwest BEAT. There’s much
to cover for the month of April. So
I’ll cut to the chase.
APRIL
1
Cut a little out of your weekly bar spending allowance to pick up
this one… the original Van Halen (yep…Eddie, Alex,
Michael and Diamond Dave)
will be releasing their first studio effort as a quartet since 1984…
Ha Ha Ha...APRIL FOOL’S!!!
Now that I have your attention… The
White Stripes will release the follow-up to their breakthrough success
White Blood Cells this month with Elephant,
which will stomp into stores on the 1st…
The
Essential Collections will be available from a horde of old ‘70s
arena rockers, including -- Blue
Oyster Cult, Electric Light Orchestra, Molly Hatchet, and the man who
thinks there is a conspiracy against him, Brit-pop has-been Adam
Ant…
George Jones has a
double-disc seT, The
Gospel Collection due out… A
tribute to the late Waylon Jennings is on the horizon.
I’ve Always Been Crazy features such notables from such far
reaching ends of the musical spectrum as Brooks
& Dunn and James Hetfield…
Bob Mould will deliver Body
of Song… Escapology is the new
effort from Robbie Williams… Soundtracks
to both Jesus Christ Superstar
and Crossing
Jordan will arrive…
Perhaps the coolest
release of the day will be the highly anticipated DVD of Beach Boys genius Brian
Wilson from his last tour.
APRIL

Fear Factory uncovers
the Hatefiles
on the 8th… Meteora
is the new LP from Linkin
Park… if you’re looking for a collection of Rainy
Day Songs, pick up the new release from The
Jayhawks…
Metal Blade will release a three disc set from metal pioneers Armored
Saint titled Symbol of Salvation in preparation for their farewell tour. Motley
Crue will have their catalog re-released complete with bonus tracks
(again), as well as their Lewd,
Crued & Tattooed DVD.
A pre-Led
Zeppelin collection from guitarist Jimmy
Page will surface… Will it be Yardbirds
stuff or his volumes of studio work for others?
Godsmack will become Faceless…
One of the finest singer/songwriters of the last quarter century, Warren
Zevon, will have some of his works re-issued (God bless you and your
family, Warren)…
Live In London is the two CD set arriving from the Ripper Owens fronted lineup of Judas Priest… and The King’s daughter will finally show us that
she too can sing.... Yep, at long last, Lisa
Marie Presley, will release her first album, To Whom It May Concern.

Fresh off a box office
bomb, the oldest 21-year-old in music, Madonna, will attempt to enlighten us on American Life. What a good thing for someone who lives in England to
do!
Fight Test is a new EP from Flaming
Lips… A DVD from the biggest cult band in the land, GWAR, bears the interesting title –– Dawn of the Day of the Night of
the Penguins ––is ready on this this day along with two other
GWAR DVDs…
Songs of Life is the solo effort from Poison frontman Bret Michaels
(insert your own joke here)…
To finish off the
22nd, Punk Jazz: The Anthology will be issued with three unreleased
tracks from a musical genius who was taken from us all too soon, Jaco
Pastorius. That is my
pick of the month for April.
APRIL
29
The calendar was kind enough to
give us five Tuesdays in April for releases this year. The
Very Best of the A&M Years
will be available from .38 Special.
Former Wolfsbane
and Iron Maiden vocalist Blaze
will give us a two CD set titled, As
Live As It Gets… Then
things get even heavier as Slayer
delivers the War At The Warfield
DVD… and
Lynch Mob will attempt to start
a Revolution… Phish
guitar virtuoso Trey Anastasio
also has a double live effort to serve up on Elektra called Plasma… And that does it
for me folks.
Before I go, I would
like to take a moment to extend my thoughts and prayers to all of our
troops fighting overseas, especially Chris
“Shimmy” Lindner of the
United States Navy.
May God bless you all, and bring you home safely.
