The Complete Allman Brothers Band Discography

by DEAN REYNOLDS

(223 Pages) Indie Published / $41.95 (includes S&H)

 by Joe Winters

Since their formation in 1969, The Allman Brothers Band, different incarnations of, and their individual members have recorded and released more music than probably any other Southern rock band in history.  So much material, that one would think it would be nearly impossible to document absolutely every piece of recorded music from the legendary group from Macon, GA.

Through dedication that borders obsession, lifelong ABB fan and enthusiast Dean Reynolds has put together the most complete guide to the recordings of The Allman Brothers Band to be published -- hands down!  Mr. Reynolds has a long history with the band that dates back to April 1970, when he first saw them perform at a small club called Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati, Ohio.  (Incidentally, Reynolds served as Logistical Coordinator for the ABB release “Live At Ludlow Garage 1970”.)

In the thirty-plus years since then, his allegiance to the group has left him with one of the most complete collections of their recordings imaginable.  Five years in the making, “The Complete Allman Brothers Band Discography,” is nothing short of an amazing account of the music that for many, like Reynolds, has become a celebrated American institution.

This self-published limited-edition discography features complete listings of every single recording by The Allman Brothers Band, members of (past and present), side projects, as well as guest appearances by ABB members on recordings by other artists.  For example, included here officially for the first time is the complete Duane Allman sessions catalog, with recorded and released dates for every recording session Duane ever did outside of the Allmans.

Integrated with the account of every release are the history of each recording, complete track listings, and pictures of the original album artwork, all taken from the author’s personal collection.  The depth of this book is remarkable, and really shows off Reynolds’ seemingly endless knowledge and passion ABB’s music.  Domestic releases, rare imports, collectable items, and hard to find bootlegs fill the inside of this 223-page full color book.

For the true Allman Brothers fan, “The Complete Allman Brothers Band Discography,” is a must own collectable in itself.  For the avid memorabilia collector, it is sure to be the perfect reference guide in the quest for literally hundreds of rare recordings.  It’s only available through the author, and due to a one-time pressing of only 2000 copies, supply may be limited.

KILL IT AND GRILL IT!

by TED & SHEMANE NUGENT

(250 Pages) Indie Published / $21.95 (includes S&H)

 by  Pam “Pammygirl” Fisch

I just got done reading Ted & Shemane Nugent’s “Kill It & Grill.”  It’s a new cook book and it’s a great read!  Full of excitement and intensity from the beginning to the end -- from the hunt stories to the how to prepare the kill in a variety of tasty and interesting ways.  With Ted and Shemane Nugent’s help the reader learns how to bring the Spirit of the WIld to their own personal kitchen table. Ted also offers advice (something he is never short on) about stalking, killing, and preserving game.

The Nugents include exciting and delicious recipes for such dishes as –– Biltong Jerky, Venison Honey Roast, Swedish Meatballs with Venison, Wild Boar Chops (with marinade), Maple-Bourbon Wild Boar, Bar-B-Que Black Bear, Fresh Roasted Wood Duck, Pheasant & Rice, and much, much more. There are also some pretty wild desert ideas with which to follow such unique entrees.

Every chapter in “Kill It & Grill It” is written beautifully and captures the deep passion the Nugents feel about living off the land and their healthy lifestyle. “Our kids have never tasted processed, store bought meat,” boasted Ted in a recent interview with Midwest BEAT.  “They’ve eaten freshly killed meat their whole lives.”

Illustrating the pages chock full of hunting tales and the recipes, are many beautiful “hunt and kill” photos from various Tribe Nuge (as he calls them) excursions into the wilds.

 Some great chapters include:

Chapter 6 ––“Dinner On The Hoof”  –– where Ted and 10-year-old son, Rocco, are hunting in Texas.  An striking chapter showing strong “father and son” bonding. Ted reminds us, “If you take your kids hunting, you won’t have to hunt for your kids.”

Chapter 14 –– “On The Sweeter Side”  –– written by Shemane. She relates how she met Ted and about their much frenzied-paced lifestyle. Shemane writes in detail about the Nuge Tribe’s natural diet and why it is important to them.  It educates and makes one really think about what we buy at the store and what we are eating.  Even so, the Nugents occasionally indulge on Shemane’s homemade chocolate chip cookies as this chapter reveals.

Chapter 20 -- “Sex-Fried Fishslab” -- All about the Nuge Tribe Gonzo Lake Bluegill Fish Fry.  From the assembly line, to frying ‘em and eating ‘em as fast as you can!

Ted Nugent has sold more than 30 million records.  He is a noted outdoorsman and the publisher/editor of Ted Nugent Adventure Outdoors Magazine, the president of Ted Nugent United Sportsmen of America, and the founder of the Ted Nugent Kamp For Kids.  His previous book, “God, Guns & Rock ‘N’ Roll,” was a national best-seller, as this one is sure to become.

Shemane Nugent has been a certified fitness instructor for over twenty years.  She writes, edits, and produces the “Ted Nugent Spirit of the Wild”  PBS television series with Ted, writes for Ted Nugent Adventure Outdoors and other publications.  Shemane also conducts the annual Queen of the Forest Program for women!  For more info: www.tednugent.com
