BBMak is B…B…Back!...
I recently got to talk with Mark
Barry of BBMak, the totally
hot band which is rounded out by Christian
Burns and Stephen “Ste”
McNally, about the upcoming release of their sophomore album for
Hollywood Records, “Into Your Head,”
which hits retail on August 27.
Here’s what Mark had to say...in his sexy Brit accent of course!
“Well, obviously
there was a bit of pressure there, because we had a lot of success on the
first album, but I think that every band needs a little bit of pressure.
Because the song, ‘Back Here’ was such a big hit, for the past year we’ve
just concentrated on songwriting. We
wrote a bunch of songs together and we believe that we have the very best
album we possibly could get together. We also worked with some great
collaborators, so we’re all really confident that this album is going to
do just as well as the first one. So that little bit of extra pressure
does help.”
The new album has ten tracks on it (all written by the BBMak
boys themselves) with six recorded in England and four recorded here in
America.
“Into Your Head” is being released in America at the end of this month, while the
European release date is still unknown.
“We’re not sure at
the moment, because at this time we’re going to put our sole focus and
commitment into the States. We’re
going to be here for the rest of the year, so we’ll worry about (the
release in Europe) at the end of this year.
Europe is on the back burner at the moment.”
The group’s first
single from the new CD –– “Out
Of My Heart (In Your Head)” –– was released to radio stations a
few weeks ago and is already
ruling the air waves in many markets.
BBMak will perform as
part of a radio night at Great America at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 8.
They will also be performing and presenting on the “Teen
Choice Awards,” which airs at 8 p.m. (Central) on FOX-TV on Monday,
August 19.
Mark said that this
album is definitely different from
“Sooner Or Later.” “I
think lyrically there are definitely progressions from the first album.
We’ve grown two years older and we’ve gotten a lot more experience now
in song writing. We got involved in producing as well on this album.
We’ve had considerably more involvement on this album than the first
one,” he said. “It’s
definitely still guitar-driven with harmonies, but it’s a bit edgier,”
continued Barry. “I think this album is going to open a few more doors
for us with the general public, because it is a bit more mature.
Hopefully, our fans have grown more mature with their music
interests as well, so we’re pretty confident.”
Last year’s headline
show at Chicago’s House Of Blues was a sell-out, as was their entire
solo HOB run. “Doing that [solo]
tour was pretty scary, because we had been out on these huge tours with
Britney Spears and N*Sync and playing to thousands of people and suddenly,
we were out there by ourselves, wondering if people were going to even
show up,” concluded Barry. “I’m
very glad they did.”
