MONTHLY COLUMN by Diane Demeter PUMPING
UP FOR METAL FEST! The 3-day weekend was a very welcome
stress reliever, though it was short lived, as I was forced out of my
job of four years by friends of over 10 years, no less. The nicer you
are the more you get sh*t on it seems.
I guess I need to start wearing a diaper on my head.
I wasn’t meant to be a brunette.
I’m
looking forward to doing without the six migraines in two weeks and
I’m spending my time right now getting pumped up for The
Central Illinois Metal Fest, being held on Saturday Aug. 16, at The Canopy Club in Urbana, IL.
If you have been reading my column for a while, you already have
been informed. If not,
here’s the short version: $10
at door, $8 advance (purchase online), 18 and over and 15 Heavy Metal
bands to which you can bang your head.
The festivities start
at 12:30 p.m. sharp, with Central Illinois very own Low Twelve starting things off.
Doors open at Noon, so you can secure your spot in plenty of
time. Every detail you need
to know, including band schedule, hotel info. can be found at:
www.xwarp.net
Where else in Central
Illinois are you going to see ––
Lividity, Fleshgrind, Low
Twelve, Gorgasm, Waco Jesus and headliner, Incantation?
All this brought to you by, CMI
Promotions, X-Warp.net and Mark of Cain
Tattoos.
Can you handle 12
hours of non-stop brutality? What
more could you metal mothers want?
Show your support and keep metal out of the morgue!!!
I was reading the July
10 issue of Rolling Stone (which I haven’t done in 10 years or so, only
because it was a freebie) and found this very amusing:
Marilyn Manson won’t
be playing the August 11 Ozzfest
date in Darien Lakes, New York. According to the Six
Flags venue spokesperson, the park has the contractual right to block
individual performers, with no further comment. Obviously there isn’t a problem with Cradle Of Filth, who is scheduled to perform their underground,
satanic style of metal. Wait
‘til they see the t-shirts! HA!
Speaking of Cradle
Of Filth, do you want to win some free stuff in celebration of the
band playing the Ozzfest tour?
Go to www.cradleoffilth.com/ozzfestpaulstopcomp/
Maybe
you can get a t-shirt to wear to the Darien Lakes gig.
Ill Nino have completed
recording their second CD –– Confession
–– with a tentative release date of September. The video, “How
Can I Live” was shot July 8, and can be seen at www.roadrun.com/video.
The track is the first song from the August 12 release of the
horror movie soundtrack, “Freddy
vs. Jason.”
Type O Negative’s new video, “I
Don’t Want To Be Me,” can also be viewed on the site. Type O’s
new disc, This
Life Is Killing Me, is so damn good it has been #1 in the radio
trade publication metal charts, for a couple of weeks.
I never had a doubt!!!!
Vader’s bass player, Simon has left the band due to personal differences after a show in
Israel. Novy, known for his involvement with Devilyn and Behemoth
joined the band as replacement and will have played his first show with
Vader July 19 in the Czech Republic.
Vader is still playing on The Art of Noise Tour, reported here last month and still
includes the Chicago-land dates in October.
For more information go to:
www.vaderpl.
Hades drummer Ron Lipnicki, 32 has been fighting testicular cancer, most recently
with a four-hour operation that lasted 10 hours. The MRI showed more cancer cells and Lipnicki is on another
round of chemo. You can
wish him well at: lipnicki@optonline.net.
Cleveland’s Chimaira
has been added to the second half of the “Ozzfest Tour” with Killswitch
Engage. The second half
kicked off in Indianapolis on July 31st.
Grindcore band Cattle
Decapitation will soon hit the road with Deicide,
Hate Eternal, and Krisiun,
appropriately on October 31st. Confirmed
date for Chicago, November 13, at The Metro/Smart Bar.
Crash Music brings you
Swedish band Transport League’s
newest disc, Grand Amputation, in stores now. Disconnect Massconnect
can be viewed at: www.crashmusicinc.com,
go to the news section and click on the link.
It’s been several years since I’ve heard anything from these
Swedes I immediately fell for this band, as they were heavy as hell, but
quite unique. HALFORD
BACK IN THE PRIEST’S PULPIT…
Last, but certainly
not the least, CNN recently posted on their website news about Judas
Priest reuniting with Rob
Halford. Work will start in October on a full-length album, due out in
the spring of 2004.
Of course, a global
concert tour will follow, the first with Halford, in more than a decade.
Apparently the reunion has been in the works for four years and the band
is more than ecstatic. Tim
“Ripper” Owens left on friendly terms and I’m sure he knew
eventually it would come to this.
Hope to see some
Midwest BEAT readers banging heads with me at The Central Illinois Metal Fest.
Hell Yeah!!
‘Til next time… “ONE NATION UNDERGROUND!”
