CAVIAR & APPLES SERVED...

•           The local pop-rock band, CAVIAR, recently performed at The Apple Computer store on Michigan Avenue.  The band members are: Blake Smith (vocals), Mike Willison (keys), Peter Muschong (guitar) and Jason Btachko (percussion).

Caviar produced much of their upcoming second album (due out in July) by locking themselves in a small apartment for several months with only a drum set, a keyboard, guitars and a single Power Mac G4. Hear the results and witness the reunion of men and machine.

JAY MOHR LEAVES FANS “GASPING”...

•           Actor/comedian Jay Mohr stopped into town for a visit to Border’s Books & Music where he signed copies of his new book, “Gasping For Airtime: Two Years in the Trenches of Saturday Night Live,” and hammed it up with Marc Moder, the National Events Coordinator for Border’s.

Mohr was twenty-one-and moved from New Jersey to New York City to pursue his dream of stand-up stardom, he never thought that the first real job he’d land would be on “Saturday Night Live”. But, surprisingly, that’s just what happened.

In his new book, Mohr offers an intimate account of the inner workings of “Saturday Night Live,” from how he learned to survive pitch meetings by using “fake pitches,” to a disastrous weekend retreat in the country.

He also dishes on the guest hosts (including John Travolta, Shannen Doherty, Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, and Charles Barkley); the musical guests (Kurt Cobain, Steven Tyler, and Eric Clapton); and of course his SNL cast mates (Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, David Spade, and Al Franken, to name but a few).

LARRY FLYNT  “HUSTLES” HIS NEW BOOK...

•            Controversial publishing icon, Larry Flynt, discussed and signed “Sex, Lies, and Politics: The Naked Truth” last month in Chicago at Border’s Books & Music.

Just when you thought there was no one left with the guts to expose the liars and hypocrites, enter Larry Flynt.  The legendary pornographer and crusader for First Amendment rights has had it with Post-9/11 paranoia, attacks on our Civil Rights, the rise of the religious right, vested corporate interests, and the compliant U.S. media.

In “Sex, Lies and Politics: The Naked Truth,” Larry shares his courageous insights on sex, freedom of speech, government, privacy, the War on Terror, the Bush Administration, feminism, religion, crony capitalism, pornography, and the erosion of our personal freedoms. He asks Americans the important questions: “Why are we so uncomfortable with the truth and with our sexuality?” “Why are we so brainwashed as a nation?”  “Why are we so afraid to be truly free?”

Few other living American icons fascinate, enrage, and delight as many people (of all ages, backgrounds, and political preferences) as does Larry Flynt. Sure to spark debate from all sides, “Sex, Lies and Politics,” is Larry’s manifesto for change, a look inside his mind and heart, a groundbreaking book from a pundit and patriot. Because he is not afraid of the truth, he’ll say what no one else will.

ROBIN WILLIAMS HONORED...

•           Actor Robin Williams was honored by the Chicago International Film Festival with the Career Achievement Award which was presented to him by Festival Founder and artistic director Michael Kutza. He attended the gala with his wife, which was held at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers.

A “DYNO-MITE” LOTTERY PARTY...

•           Jimmie “J.J.” Walker from the hit 1970s TV show, “Good Times”, was the celebrity guest at the Illinois Lottery party celebrating it’s 30th Anniversary.  Also on hand were radio V103-FM’s Ramonski Luv and Joe Soto, who emceed the event.  Remarks were made by Lottery Superintendent Carolyn Adams who dressed in a 1970s costume to publicize their Celebrity Look-A-Like Contest.

PEEKING INTO “DIARIES”...

•           Tonya Lee Lewis and Crystal McCrary Anthony hosted a discussion and signing for their highly anticipated, “Gotham Diaries”, at Border’s Books & Music State Street store in Chicago.

“Gotham Diaries” is an uproarious work of social satire which gives us an exclusive peek into the world of super-rich, super-connected African Americans.

In this compelling first novel, authors Tonya Lewis Lee (wife and co-author to Spike Lee for Please, Baby, Please) and Crystal McCrary Anthony give us a rare glimpse inside the fashionable and urbane world of New York’s chic African-American society and its incumbent scandals, foibles, and skeletons. “Gotham Diaries” is a gripping novel, filled with fascinating characters and a plot that won’t let go.

BILLY CRYSTAL LOVES YOU...

•           Actor Billy Crystal stopped by Border’s Books & Music Michigan Avenue Store to sign copies of his new children’s book, “I Already Know I Love You.”
