Cult Death Metal band Devilyn has recently signed with Conquer Records.  Their 4th disc is set to be out in September.

Unearth, out on the Ozzfest Tour, has a new video.  “Great Dividers” is the first track off their newest album, Oncoming Storm.  The video should be airing now on “Headbanger’s Ball” and Fuse.

We should have seen it coming…Metal Blade offers up the Crowned Unholy, available August 10, in response to The Crowns recent break-up in March.  Crowned Unholy is remake/remix/mastering of the bands fifth album, Crowned in Terror, including a bonus DVD.

Shadows Fall will be contributing to all the Fall hoopla with their newest contribution, The War Within, September 21.  This is their fourth full-length and the follow-up to the critically acclaimed disc, The Art of Balance.   Shadows Fall drummer, Jason Bittner has been officially named the #1 Up and Coming Drummer in Modern Drummer’s 2004 Reader’s Poll, July’s issue.

It’s hard to believe the band has been together 12 years already.  They are currently working on new material for their fifth studio album expected in 2005.

God Dethroned, Dutch death metal at it’s finest, is recording the follow up to 2003’s, Into the Lungs of Hell.  The 9-song disc is yet untitled and is due out late 2004/early 2005.  In related news, the band recently replaced bassist “Beef” with a musician named “Henk”.

Roadrunner Records has been busy churning out “The Best Of…” CDs. These are great for those on a tight budget.  Here’s a sample: The Best of Deicide the official greatest hits collection, with liner notes by Joey Jordison of Slipknot.  Other The Best of... sets includes ones from King Diamond, Life of Agony, Madball, Malevolent Creation and Mercyful Fate. All are separate CD’s of course.

Annihilator has one, double-disc set, Alice In Hell/Never Neverland available and ILL Nino is heating up the tropical percussion on Confession.  This CD features English and Spanish lyrics laden with melodies, but heavy as hell.

Nightwish is playing The House of Blues in Chicago, August 25th with Lullacry.  A lot of people are unexpectedly blown away after hearing this band.

RAW CHICAGO METAL...

I’m still trying to see my way through the mountain of CD’s, I need to review and I came across WHORRID, a 3-piece from Chicago.  Probably no need to tell you it’s straight-up death metal.  The band names give it away, every time.

The Whorrid concept came to be in 2001 and the final line up became a reality in 2003. Their latest effort, a 3-song EP, Bitch Butchers, is right up your alley, if you’re a fan of Autopsy or not.  There are an incredible amount of sub-genres in the death metal realm and Whorrid describes their sound as “Pure raw true metal”.

The track “Life or Death” will be featured on the Innervenus Art compilation, A New Order of Sound, out in August.  They’ve been writing new material and playing gigs around the Chicago-land area.

If you ask the band, “What is Whorrid?” They will tell you, “No drum triggers, no special effects, no bullshit lyrics”.  Sometimes you must wallow in the pain, in this case, that’s a good thing!   To keep up to date on all that is Whorrid, feast your eyes on www.whorrid.com
