THE LOW DOWN ON LOW TWELVE!
It’s time to be getting stocking stuffers for all your buds. The gift of music (or in this case a good old fashioned head banging’) is really the only way to go, when shopping for your favorite metal heads. Century Media will be releasing a specially priced 2-CD set on November 18th. Metal For The Masses Volume II is a 20- track compilation, exclusively available at Hot Topic retail outlets nationwide. The CD includes new tracks from assorted bands such as –– Arch Enemy, Diabolic, Dimmu Borgir, Haste, Shadows Fall, Watch Them Die, Eyes of Fire, Glass Casket and others. Enforsaken and God Forbid, whose new albums won’t be out until early 2004, have exclusive new cuts on the disc. It gets even better; the second disc is made up of over 150 MP3 tracks, from the likes of Jungle Rot, Fireball Ministry, Nevermore, Jag Panzer, Nightwish, Hammerfall, Strapping Young Lad, Fleshgrind and more. Here’s the kicker it costs only $3.99. I’ve said it before, compilations kick ass! A gift for you is to hit –– www.revolvermag.com –– “Get Lucky” section, from December 2 – January 13th. 100 runner-ups will win a copy of the Metal For The Masses compilation and (drum roll please) the grand prize winner gets an airbrushed guitar. Metal Blade Records announces their new eBay store, is now open. To find the newest and elusive Metal Blade releases, since the label’s inception, go to www.metalbladerecords.com . Not only will you get really fair prices, you will have a mighty fine assortment of metal to choose from, on CD’s, LP’s and cassettes. Besides deciding on those selections, there are tons of other music related items. Who could complain about getting the new Rage Against The Machine CD? It’s Live At The Grand Olympic Auditorium, due out on November 24th. A DVD with added bonus footage will be out soon after, on December 8th. I’m looking forward to seeing it, especially since I haven’t had the good fortune to see them live. Zach De La Rocha says, “I can think of no other moments in all of our 10 years as a band that captured the intensity and the intent of Rage Against The Machine.” Those are the best reasons to listen to RAGE! Santa isn’t the only one coming to town spreading joy and good cheer; check out all the shows you could be going to…The Heavils are playing November 29th at The Pit Skatepark 10th Anniversary Party, in Rockford and again, for the city’s First Night celebration on New Years Eve. Black Dahlia Murder has been busy writing material for their next studio effort, but that’s not stopping them from their tour with Himse and 3 Inches of Blood. See them on 12/19 in Indianapolis at the Emerson Theatre and on 12/20 in Chicago at Fireside Bowl. The working title of the new Hypocrisy disc is The Arrival, due out January or February 2004. Ten tracks featuring different metal styles from fast and brutal – doom. SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE! The more things change, the more they stay the same. Such is the case concerning a half-assed attempt at bashing heavy music, by a local school board. A band wanted to play a school benefit rock show, in support of a volunteer organization that has raised over $80,000 for extracurricular activities, which were eliminated due to a budget deficit. The show was to be an acoustic/electric set, performed in the high school gym. The students were looking forward to the all ages show, seeing that the rural community offers nothing for teenagers, except extracurricular activities, through the school. The band was looking forward to helping the cause, by playing for free and because one of the band members is an alumnus of the school. The school board’s asinine endeavor was to axe the show. They claimed the cancellation was due to lack of security. HA! The police station is less than a half-mile away, from the school. The show has since been relocated to another venue and the owners were approached by two school officials, who felt the need to tell them, the show would be bad for business. Turns out, the band was being accused of possibly setting a bad example for the students and offending a lot of people. All of this because, someone viewed their website and misconstrued some of the content. They failed to take into account the band has donated their time and effort to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer research. In my book that’s a noble thing to do, not something a devil worshiper would participate in. You would think the way these school officials and other needlessly frightened people are acting, Corpse Vomit was rolling into town. Now on to something light-hearted…have a safe and rockin’ holiday season! Let us not forget the brave men and women in our military, stationed all over the globe, keeping our freedom intact! All the best to the staff and dedicated readers of Midwest BEAT! Till Next Year… | ||
