(CD release info column)

Welcome to the first CD News of the 21st century.  Since the whole Y2K
thing turned out to be a bust, and life as we know it is still the same, I
had to return to the keypad once again to deliver you the new release dates
you so eagerly crave. A big thing is afoot for this column in the months to
come... I promise to bash bands I do not like even more so than I did last
year. Get ready y'all...

 FEB. 1:

If the Y2K bug would have delivered, this album would not have seen the
light of day.  But Barbra Streisand delivers her live album from New Year's
eve titled, Timeless on this day.  I think it will be crap... but most
people's mothers will think it's fantastic.

At 61, Tina Turner will attempt to keep going Twenty Four- Seven.  This
new effort from Ms. Turner even features a duet with that '80s Canuck, Bryan
Adams titled, "Without You", and two songs recorded with the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra.

We've got a debut on Columbia this month from The Madd Rapper, cleverly
titled Tell 'Em Why U Mad.  The album features such notable stars such as
Busta Rhymes, Raekwon (of Wu-Tang), Eminem, Jermaine Dupri, and none other
than GQ gunslinger, Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs, who now I hear goes under the
stage name of "Sharpshooter".  But you know, if I were as rich as Puffy, I'd
probably shoot at people too...just 'cause I could get away with it if I was
famous (see Vince Neil or O.J.  for reference on that topic).

To round out the first of the month, former Suede (aka The London Suede)
guitarist Bernard Butler will release his Friends & Lovers album...and Bobby
Sutliff (ex-Windbreakers)  will feed us some Bitter Fruit.  Hmm...I've been
known to break some wind myself.

FEB. 8:

The 8th will give you the privilege of picking up the limited edition
release from the legendary Joni Mitchell.  Her Both Sides Now features
artwork designed by Mitchell just in time for Valentine's Day. It's a set of
new songs and old songs.

If you want to be V.I.P. this month, check out the release from The Jungle
Brothers...  PJ Olson will speak Words For Living... Don't know why, but Y2K
is still on Screwball's mind two months after... and the soundtrack to the
film Ghetto Superstar arrives in stores everywhere.

FEB. 15:

The Rollins Band returns with a new album this day.  The band has all new
members (Henry is still on board though) and some newfound energy on Get Some
Go Again, which is on the DreamWorks label.

Mercury will release the self-titled effort from the band Full Devil
Jacket... which I hear kicks ass... so I'll go on a limb and make this my
"Pick O' The Month" for February.  If it ends up to be crap (like Limp Bizkit
) I'll apologize next month.

Attention all North-side artsy fartsy people... The Cure will deliver
Blood Flowers for your listening pleasure.  You know what?  Tom Lounges might
like them, but I think the Cure is pure crap...just thought I'd share that
with you.

Life Before Insanity is what Govt. Mule is reflecting on as they give us
an album with less of an improv/jam feel than their previous releases...  The
BBC Sessions from legendary ass-kickers The Who will finally be available
this month... ex-Urge Overkill frontman Nash Kato will give us his new album,
Debutante...

 FEB. 20:

Happy Birthday to Me!  Send me presents or die!

 FEB. 22:

I feel the need to lead off the 22nd with the release of the new effort
from Bloodhound Gang.  Why you may ask?  Because they have the best album
title of the month. Their new album is called,  Hooray for Boobies.  I think
that's clever.  I say Hooray for Boobies too!!

Rockology from late KISS drummer Eric Carr will finally see life this
month, with a little help from Bruce Kulick. Speaking of Kulick, his
post-KISS band, Union (with ex-Motley singer John Corobi) will be hangin' out
this month in The Blue Room. It's their sophomore CD.

Underground favorites The Poster Children return with DDD this month...
former Billy Idol axe-man Steve Stevens  (who has been MIA for some time)
will return to unveil the instrumental album, Flamenco a Go-Go... legendary
bassist Billy Sheehan (Mr.Big, David Lee Roth) has a new project called
Niacin, with an album called Deep to back it up with...  Ain't Life Grand is
the new release long anticipated from Slash's Snake Pit.. and a self-titled
release from the late INXS singer/frontman, Michael Hutchence, is due out as
well. There is no truth to the rumor it is titled, Just Hangin' Around.

 FEB. 29:

Relapse Records will deliver two new albums for those into old-school
metal this month.  First, Deceased will unveil their dedication to old-school
on Supernatural Addiction.  And Venom is the new one from Breach, a group who
leans towards the old-Metallica sound that we all miss sooo much.  Check 'em
both out!

Oasis returns to American shores this month with a new line up and new
album.  Standing On The Shoulder of Giants has been in the works for two
years now.

Chicago's grossly overrated Smashing Pumpkins, return with their much
delayed effort, Machina, making me wonder when the hell their 15 minutes are
going to be up...  If you thought I didn't like The Cure, I really don't like
Billy Corgan's whiny voice and stupid songs about his "issues'...  That's why
I will dub Machina as my "Turd of the Month" for February. Of course, The
Cure are running a close second.

That's it folks.  Tune in next month for info on L'il Kim, Don Henley,
Duran Duran, Toni Braxton, and Built To Spill.  Remember...if you don't like
it?  Send hate mail to me at Rocker78@aol.com.  Label it as "hate mail" too,
or I might delete it as junk mail.  See you in a month!
