Some New Music For A New Year

Since starting this monthly column, I tend to get a lot of promotional CDs
in the mail from the record companies, some good, some not so good.

I figured, since they are kind enough to give my ears an advance listen to
what's soon to be released, that it's only fair to share that new music with
my readers.

This month I'm gonna give you the 411 on five new CDs and the artists who
made them.  Well, let's get started!

FRESH SOUNDS...

BBMACTeen Scene.jpg (48370 bytes)   BBMak ~ These three British hotties have got talent!  Their single "Still
On Your Side", released on December 6, is already a smash hit in the UK, and
I'm sure it will be here too.

BBMak is made up of Christian Burns; 23, Ste McNally; 21, and Mark Barry;
21.  If you like LFO or 98 Degrees, you'll love BBMak!

Keesha ~ Her album, Keep It Real, is really great.  She's only 17, but
Keesha shows the potential to be the next Mariah Carey.  Her take on the
title track, "Keep It Real", a smokin' R&B ballad, puts Brandy to shame.

If you like Monica, or Destiny's Child, definitely put Keep It Real by
Keesha on your list of CDs to buy!

Kevon Edmonds ~ Look out Brian McKnight, because Kevon Edmonds has
arrived!  His new album, 24/7, is his first solo album since leaving his
former group, After 7.  Kevon grew up not far from here, in Indianapolis.  A
wonderful blend of R&B and pop, 24/7 is a CD that will be getting added to a
lot of CD collections.

CoCo LeeTeen Scene.jpg (72038 bytes)   CoCo Lee ~ She may sound just a bit Christina Aguilera-ish on her advance
single, "Do You Want My Love", from her forthcoming album, Just No Other Way,
but CoCo Lee is not another manufactured blond clone with a stale sound that
has been sucked dry by the Britney Spears wannabes of the world. (hint,
hint...Mandy Moore.)

Aside from that, this Asian songbird shows a lot of talent, which is why I
think we'll soon see her CD climbing the charts.

La Familia ~ These three guys are totally kickin'!  Now I normally don't
like rap all that much, but even I really enjoy their music.  Some of the
reason might be, that it isn't like a lot of rap music out there which is so
negative and filled with name calling and disrespect.

Maybe that's because La Familia's powerful rhymes are Christian-based.
That's right, it's Christian rap, that throws it down for Jesus Christ.  It's
about time we got some rap with some positive attitude. Check out their new
11-track debut CD, Eye Hath Not Seen...Ear Hath Not Heard.

These guys are right outta Gary, IN and I have had the chance to hear them
perform live at "Youth Rock", which is held at the Family Christian Center
(340 W. 45th St.) in Munster every Wednesday night at 7:00.  The weekly
gathering of young people from all over the region is for teens of all
faiths. If you're free on a Wednesday night, stop on by, it's a whole lot of
fun.  La Familia perform there often and always put on a good show.

STREET BUZZ...

I have just a few inside announcements to share with you this month...

First off, for all you Backstreet Boys fans out there,  Burger King is
sponsoring their fall tour and will be releasing an exclusive BSB CD at their
restaurants in August and September. Whopper anyone?

No Doubt has announced that its newest CD, Return of Saturn is finally
done and will hit the street on April 11th.  It's about time!!!

Another interesting bit of info is that rad actress Christina Ricci will
appear as the Angel of Death in Moby's new video for "Natural Blues."

For those who actually care, "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Party of Five"
will both go off the air at the end of this season.  Big deal. What took so
long?

It's not really teen-oriented, but for the people out there who are
interested in mythology (me!), TNT will be premiering an original movie this
month titled , "Summer of the Gods".

Don't forget that February means, Valentine's Day!  I know it's hard to
decide what to get for that special someone in your life (especially you
guys...because we girls are just soooo difficult aren't we?).

To help you out, I asked a few of my friends what they thought was the
sweetest thing their partner could do for them.  Here's a few suggestions...
Flowers...an oldie but a goody... are still a winner in everyone's book!
Cards and jewelry are also a big hit with the girls.  And the guys told me
that they just love getting candy. Big surprise there!

But the one thing that girls still think is the best gift, is simply good
old fashion quality time. Going out to a movie and maybe dinner, going for a
walk or drive and just spending time together.

Well, I hope that helped some of you out.  I'd hate to see anyone wind up
in the dog house because they failed to get a clue!

To all of you out there...Happy Valentine's Day!
