Hello again to all of the faithful readers of the Midwest BEAT. I hope your holiday season was festive and safe. Without all of the usual rambling… I’m going to get the ball rolling, and tell you what’s on tap.FEBRUARY 3...As the month of love, and my birthday opens, there are some great new releases arriving in stores.Actor/singer/songwriter Harry Connick Jr. delivers Only You, a throwback to the smooth R&B sounds of the 1950’s and 1960’s… Five For Fighting are embraced in The Battle For Everything… Brendan O’Brien (King’s X, Korn) has produced Incubus’ fifth release, A Crow Left of the Murder…Soundtracks are on the way from the feature films Barbershop 2, Lion King 1 1/2, and 50 First Dates… Robin Trower is claiming that his latest CD, Living Out Of Time, just may be his last studio effort…Let’s hope NOT! There is a compilation album on the way to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Rykodisc label, which features such artists as former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and David Bowie… Country singer Kenny Chesney will enlighten us with what he does When the Sun Goes Down.FEBRUARY 10...The second Tuesday of the month yields the return of Pantera… well, sort of. Dimebag and Vinnie Paul have two new recruits in their lineup of Damage Plan, and the group’s debut effort, New Found Power, will be on Elektra Records…Wherever Norah Jones is, apparently it Feels Like Home… Courtney Love is trying to re-invent herself as America’s Sweetheart… Crimes of Passion marks the return of Big Head Todd and The Monsters…Melissa Etheridge is going to get Lucky… A DVD is on the way from Henry Rollins titled Live at Luna Park… and a DVD will also be available from the late Warren Zevon, chronicling the making of his final album prior to his death late last year due to cancer.FEBRUARY 17...So, I have found a band with what could be the greatest rock ‘n’ roll name ever. Get F*cked will release their self-titled EP this month… Brilliant singer/songwriter John Wesley Harding will show us his Adam’s Apple on the 17th… In Concert is the live effort from Cinderella… A two CD set, The Essential, is on the way from Rockford natives Cheap Trick… And Evergreen Terrace is experiencing Writer’s Block...FEBRUARY 24...The Wretched Spawn, a CD/ DVD combo, is on the way from Cannibal Corpse… After We Go, the latest LP from Tantric, will be available on Maverick Records… A new album from Peter, Paul, & Mary is on the way. That’s right, a new one…not just one that Tom Lounges dusted off out of his closet. In These Times is on the way after many delays…Primal Fear is walking on the Devil’s Ground… Punk Statik Paranoia is the new album from Orgy… and to end the month… the Sacred Heart DVD from DIO will arrive.Well, that’s it folks.
