Hello again to all of the faithful readers of the Midwest BEAT.   It’s July, and time to celebrate the independence of this great country of ours for the 227th time.   So raise the stars and stripes, and raise a fist for rock ‘n’ roll… Here’s what’s on tap for this month…

JULY 1

Blues great Robert Cray will be first out of the gates this month with his debut album for Sanctuary Records titled, “Time Will Tell”…

Just in time for your barbeque comes “Worm Infested,” a new EP from Cannibal Corpse.  This is a “limited edition” release that features covers of Accept, Possessed and Metallica songs to liven up your holiday…

A double-live set from The Who that was recorded “Live at the Royal Albert Hall” in 2000 will be available this day as well.  The set features many guests, including -- Noel Gallagher, Eddie Vedder, Bryan Adams and Nigel Kennedy

Ashanti will deliver “Chapter II” of her musical saga… Tracy Byrd will enlighten us on “The Truth About Men”…  The new effort from Poison The Well is titled, “You Come Before You.”

A four-disc boxed set from the King himself, Elvis Presley, will surface with a title of “Close Up”

And as expected, there is another wave of AC/DC re-issues arriving.  This time --- ‘”74 Jailbreak,” “Fly on the Wall,” “Flick of the Switch,” “Blow Up Your Video” and “If You Want Blood…”  –– are all on the way.

JULY  8

Late ‘90s swing-kings Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will be returning to dance halls on this second Tuesday of July with a new CD –– “Save My Soul” –– which also has some enhanced footage to watch on your computer from a California show recorded this past May…

Long time collaborator of the late Grateful Dead front-man Jerry Garcia, the very talented David Grisman, is ready to unveil his new effort, “Life of Sorrow”… We will also see DVD releases from both Cream and The Yardbirds this month…

Original Van Halen mouthpiece, David Lee Roth, is embarking on a lengthy tour in support of his new CD, “Diamond Dave,” which will arrive in stores the day prior to his appearance at Chicago’s House of Blues (July 9).

JULY 15

A two-disc DVD set from metal greats, Iron Maiden, hits stores on this date, titled “Visions of the Beast” … Rhino Records will be issuing “The Box” from the legendary Chicago.   The set will contain five CD’s and a DVD… “20th Century Masters Collections” will be available from a smokin’ pair of ‘70s guitar gods -- Peter Frampton and Pat Travers…

The multi-award winning country duo of Brooks & Dunn will take us up the “Red Dirt Road”… Soundtracks from the upcoming films “Bad Boys II” and “American Pie 3: American Wedding” are likewise set for release.

JULY 22

The mainstream-cult quartet Blues Traveler is ready to let the “Truth Be Told”Eve 6 proclaims that “It’s All In Your Head”… Rockford natives Cheap Trick continue on their path of success with the new album, “Special One”… technical metal heroes Queensryche return with their first new album in some time, “Tribe” a DVD is on the way from Tom Petty chronicling his “Last DJ” tour, and packaged with a bonus CD…

With a new bass player on board, and a new Lollapalooza festival at their feet, Jane’s Addiction is back with what will be my pick of the month.   Their album “Strays” arrives on the 22nd…

Whether this one makes it to the stores or not is yet to be seen, but rumor has it that KISS will finally release –– “The KISS Symphony: Alive 4” –– on this date this month.  It is supposed to be a two-CD set recorded down in Australia with a full symphony orchestra.  Lots of folks will be waiting in line outside stores when they open to be the first on their block with this one...Right Ms. Lounges?

JULY 29

Not too much happening on the final Tuesday of July.  Summer tours usually stall album releases.   Here’s the best that I could find… a DVD from Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society will arrive… Coal Chamber will “Give the Devil His Due”… and…well… that’s about it.

Tune in next month for more enticing info on what new music arrives in August.  Also, be looking for a special feature covering the U.S. Senior Open golf tourney both in print and at www.midwestbeat.com.  I will be at the Inverness Club in Toledo, OH covering the event exclusively for the Midwest BEAT.

Until then… long live rock-n-roll, professional wrestling, fast cars and loose women. God Bless America and the men and women of our Armed Forces!

Thanks for reading… See you all next month!
