“AMERICAN IDOL”

“I demand a recount!” –– That’s the cry of millions of Clay Aiken fans after hearing the results of the latest “American Idol” contest.

A 1,300 vote difference is all that kept Clay from becoming the next American Idol.  Instead, Rubin Studdard walked away with the title.  I must say, I find it a travesty that Rubin won.  Though Rubin is good, Clay is so much more talented.  He has been my favorite since the very beginning, and after his amazing performance of Burt Bacharach’s “Solitaire”, there was no doubt in my mind that he should win.

I definitely feel that America messed up on this one.  Hopefully they do better next season when “American Idol 3” comes out.

ON THE AUDIO SIDE OF THINGS...

Gwen Stefani of No Doubt went on the official No Doubt website and announced to her fans that she will be recording some solo material.

On the site she wrote ––  “I am not quite sure if it will become a full-blown solo project, singles for a soundtrack or just songs.  I am just kind of letting it take me where it takes me and see what happens.  It is all part of a process for me, sort of an extension of the challenge No Doubt gave ourselves on ‘Rock Steady’.”

Lance Bass of N’Sync has announced that he and his fellow group members will be reuniting in the studio soon to record a new album this September.  The CD release is expected out late in the year or early next.

Meanwhile, the members of N’Sync are keeping busy on their own.  Justin Timberlake will co-host the MTV Movie Awards with actor Sean William Scott on June 5th and is touring the U.S. with Christina A.  JC Chasez is working on his solo album.  Joey Fatone, who was just on Broadway playing Mark in the musical “RENT,” is recording an album of song parodies.

ON THE VISUAL SIDE OF THINGS...

It has been reported that Stephen King has finished writing all 15 hours of an ABC series titled, “Kingdom Hospital.”   It is based on a 1994 Danish mini-series about a haunted hospital built over an ancient graveyard.  It will premiere in January of next year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there have been many additions to the cast of the fourth installment of the CROW film franchise –– CROW: Wicked Prayer.   Cast includes: David Boreanaz, Tara Reid, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Danny Trejo, Dennis Hopper and Edward Furlong.  It’s directed by Lance Mungia.

Mila Jovovich will be reprising her role as Alice in a sequel to the “Resident Evil” feature film.  Alexander Witt will be making his directorial debut with the sequel, which was written by Paul S. Anderson, who wrote and directed the original.  In the sequel, Alice is trying to escape the ruined Raccoon City, while also searching for a way to contain a deadly virus.

Production of Tim Burton’s stop-motion animated film, “The Corpse Bride,” is reported to begin in November.  This Warner Bros. production is based on a 19th century Eastern European folk tale about a young man who inadvertently becomes married to a corpse.  The script was written by Caroline Thompson, who wrote Burton’s “Nightmare Before Christmas.”

With “Dawson’s Creek” now history, Katie Holmes has signed on to star in the romantic comedy, “First Daughter.”  The story is about a presidential daughter who learns that her college boyfriend has a secret agenda.  Holmes will be seen in the next few months in the feature films –– “The Singing Detective” and “Pieces Of April.”

It is rumored that Paramount is developing a third “Grease” movie-musical.  This one would be set in the late ‘70s, and revolve around the children of the characters from the original film.  The producers are reportedly hoping to lure John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, and other stars from the original movie to play the parents.

THE END OF SCHOOL!

Well, another school year has come and gone.  Many of my friends are graduating and will now be facing college and the real world.  I wish all seniors the best of luck in their futures and I want to say how much I will miss some of the graduating seniors at Highland High.

                                                         Good luck all of you!
