HEADBANGIN’ NEWS

Well, I continue to get my ass kicked, but not as bad.  You know what they say, “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.”  Isn’t that the truth?

Six Feet Under will be heading to the studio in April or May to begin laying down some tracks for Graveyard Classics 2 and be available early fall.

The last Graveyard Classics came out in 2000 and was so heavy it hurt.  I love bands who totally tear it the f*ck up and make it their own.  Other wise its “been there, done that”.

King Diamond is working on a live CD, newly recorded from their just completed U.S. tour.  Looks like next year, before that disc sees the light of day.  Pure torture for the Diamond fans, I’m, sure.

Bolt Thrower is also working on material for their eighth studio album and hopes to get started in May, and have a finished product by October or November, this year. Plans are to promote the disc with a full European tour and hopefully their first U.S. tour in 10 years.  Bring on the Metal!!!

Tad Morose’s new CD Modus Vivendi has just recently been released.  The domestic version will contain 3 bonus tracks, all covers, includes Accept’s “Losing More Than You Ever Had”, Abba’s “Knowing Me Knowing You” and Uriah Heep’s “Rainbow Demon”.  That’s going to be worth a listen…

Children of Bodom have been nominated for a Finnish Grammy in the “Best Hard Rock/Metal” category.  Lucky for us, they will be returning to the U.S. in April on a major package tour in support of their latest disc, Hate Crew Deathtroll.  I’ll keep you up to date, if they swing by our neck of the woods.

March 15th is the expected release date for Roasting Posers – Volume I, on DVD, from Heavycore Records.  Ninety minutes and 16 bands (Pro-Pain, Low Twelve, Lividity, PCP, Three Headed Moses, etc.) will put you in the ultimate metal mood.  I can’t wait for this one and I’ll be hanging around the mailbox to snatch it from the unassuming mailman.  To order your very own copy, go to: www.roastingposers.com

It’s not even spring yet, but time to start planning for all the summer metal shows. One I will definitely be attending is this year’s Central Illinois Metalfest 2004.  It has been expanded to a two-day event and is slated for August 13 and 14.  The Canopy Club in Urbana, IL will once again host the extravaganza.  Matt Bishop of Lividity is organizing the fest and it is sponsored by Brutality Radio, Brutal Bands and Comatose Music.  To satisfy your brutal curiosities go to: www.xwarp.net/fest/fest.html

I’m hoping to attend, at least one day of a 3-day metal fest being held this May at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds in Lafayette, IN. Rob Zombie, Low Twelve, MOD, Bowl Scraper, Tommy Coma, Sewn Shut and others will serve it brutally to you at this all ages show.

New Jersey’s God Forbid have been on the road since the end of February on their first headlining tour in support of the full length album, Gone Forever.  The band recently shot a new video for the song, “Better Day,” that should still be in rotation on Fuse and MTV2, as of this writing.

This month, Black Label Society’s new album – Hangover Music Vol. I – will be hitting the stores.  BLS guitar god, Zakk Wylde, says the disc will feature “mainly piano and acoustic guitar.  But of course there will be some electric stuff and some screaming solos in there too.”   Sounds a little like a return to his old Pride And Glory days

Back in January, Wylde took top honors in 2 categories in Guitar World magazine 2004 Readers Poll, two years in a row and MVP of the year.

“LYRICAL LASHINGS”…

This month’s subject:  DRUGS!

NINE INCH NAILS: “Hurt” (Closer / 1994)

“The needle tears a hole the old familiar sting try to kill it all away but I remember everything.”

PITCHSHIFTER: “Ephemerol” (Desensitized / 1993)

“See what I mean is forgot what I like, seeing’s believing – I see nothing.  Pleasure head out of sight, you give me a reason I’ll give you spite. Drug.”

SUPERSUCKERS: “I Want The Drugs…” (The Evil Powers Of Rock ‘n’ Roll / 1994)

“…bad for my body but good for my soul it’s good to get a little out of control I want the drugs and when I wake up on the bathroom floor I know the ‘whys and I know the ‘what fors’.

And Now For A Random Thought ...

The Darkness.  Maybe you have heard of them, being they are all over the music channels and airwaves, with the song “I Believe In A Thing Called Love.”  They are a Glam Metal Revival band from the U.K and the most talked about band in Britain and probably here, too.

There are not too many bands, on the airwaves that really garner any attention, from me anyway.  The last band was The White Stripes.   A lot of bands sound too much the same and it’s boring.  I can appreciate a band with a distinctive sound and some creativity.

Don’t Forget ...  Midwest BEAT is hosting MAS KAOS and Ripley Street live at The Sandbox Lounge on April 10.  This is a rockin’ show not to miss!

Till Next Time…KEEPING METAL OUT OF THE MORGUE!
