SPRING BREAK IS HERE
Well, the time that every high school kid longs for is
finally here –
Spring Break!!! It’s the time to leave this crappy Midwestern weather
behind
and go some place sunny and warm, like Florida, California or Mexico. I am
going to be spending my spring break with my friends in sunny Florida and it
is going to be great! No homework, no work, no parents, what more could
anyone ask for?
ROCK THE VOTE TOUR...
On February 25th, “Rock the Vote” partnered up with 7-UP
to launch a
30-city national tour. At each site teens will have the chance to
participate in the Step Up Music Challenge, which is performing and recording
your music with state of the art sound systems on a simulated concert stage
with lights, microphones and graphics.
People will also be able to check out the new confessional
Soap Box which
allows you to sound off on political issues. You can also engage in voter
registration and other political participation activities. The tour will
be
coming to Chicago, IL. June 13-15, Indianapolis, IN. June 19-21,
Cincinnati/Columbus, OH. June 23-25 and Cleveland, OH. July 2-4.
I will try to bring you more up to date information in the
months ahead.
SHINE 89.7 RULES...
When you think of Christian music, what comes to mind?
A bunch of church
hymns your grandparents used to sing? Well if that is what you think all
Christian music sounds like, then you are dead wrong!
Shine 89.7 is Chicagoland’s modern Christian music station,
and it is
absolutely wonderful! I just recently started to listen to it and I
couldn’t
be more impressed. They play the latest hits from hip Christian artists
such
as Plus One (featured below), Jars of Clay, P.O.D., Jump 5, Jaci Velasquez,
ZOEgirl, Rebecca St. James, and many others. They also feature music by a
few secular artists like CREED and Lifehouse whose lyrics have Christian
undertones, but who do not like to be labeled a “Christian Band.” I
think
everyone should at least check out this station, because they play some
really great, positive music, and that is a welcomed change.
ME...PLUS ONE
Christian boy band, Plus One, came to rock the Family
Christian Center in
Munster, IN. When I walked into the church auditorium after the group’s
press conference in the green room, I felt as though I had just entered an
*NSync concert. There were girls screaming and holding up posters and
home-made signs and shirts, it was crazy!
One thing I thought was really funny,
was when an image of Britney
Spears popped up on a giant screen that was showing different clips,
everybody booed her! I’d never heard a roomful of teens boo the
so-called,
“Queen of Teen” before, and I thought it was hilarious.
The listening party went really well and the audience
reaction to the new
songs were good. At the end of the night, Plus One stayed and signed
autographs until everyone who wanted one, got one. Believe me there were a
ton of people there too! The line stretched from the autograph table, into
the auditorium, down to the stage, across the front of the stage, and all the
way back to the back of the other side of the auditorium. They had to have
stayed a good four hours or more!
LIL J's HITTIN' THE ROAD...
Hollywood Records artist Lil’ J has just been added to the
IMX/B2K teen
club tour, which started in Detroit back in February. Lil’J, who is only
16,
has been working on promoting his debut release, All About J scheduled to
drop on April 2nd.
The single off All About J was “It’s The Weekend,” and
it went to #1 on
the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop singles Sales Chart. It was produced by
Jermaine Dupri. The video for “It’s The Weekend,” is currently being played
on
BET’s 106 & Park, so tune in and check it out.
SIMON & MILO...
The latest album from the duo Simon & Milo is Ready Ready
Set Go! Simon
& Milo are the alter egos of Jay Levine and James McCollum. Their 4x
platinum debut album Hot Show in Canada was nominated for five Juno awards, which is the Canadian equivalent to our
Grammys. They also have had two #1
video singles in Canada and two TOP 40 hits with “Sucks To Be You” and
“www.nevergetoveryou”.
Their music is kind of techno-rock. It has a pretty unique
sound. I
especially like “www.nevergetoveryou.” The song “Be As” is a
really good
because it is all about the importance of being yourself. Jason and James
have won two #1 writing awards presented by SOCAN, and all songs on Ready
Ready Set Go! were written by them, except “Infatuation,” which had verses
written by a contest winner. Simon & Milo are something worth check
ing out.
ALL THAT...
Ms. Britney’s new deal with
Pepsi-Cola reportedly nets her a cool $7
million! Guess that means the prices will be going up on the pop machines at school again.
Well that is all for this month. I hope that everybody
enjoys their
spring break and I will see you next month! C-ya!
