Hello again to the faithful readers of the Midwest BEAT.  I hope you enjoyed the return of this column last month.  Rest assured, I will be gracing these pages delivering you the latest and greatest for a long time to come.  With that said, let’s get down to business.

MARCH 4

With the album already in stores, George Strait’s DVD “For the Last Time – Live from the Astrodome” is sure to be a stunning visual compliment… Sexy rap siren Lil’ Kim delivers “La Bella Mafia” to store shelves… ‘90s chart toppers Hootie & The Blowfish return with a self-titled effort.  The legendary Don Was produced their new collection… “The Power To Believe” will be given to you by King Crimson.  The man who had us all “proud to be Americans” in the early ‘90s, Lee Greenwood, attempts to prove that he is “Stronger Than Time”Katie Bull has “Conversations With Jokers.”   And the Triple Threat DJ’s prove that they have “Many Styles.”

MARCH 11

Originally slated for a February release, blues great Bobby Blue Bland’s new album “Blues At Midnight” will finally see the light of day… BlackStreet takes it to “Level II” … Epic will release “The Essential Collections” from both Sly & The Family Stone and The Clash, who will be inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame on March 10… Machine Head will deliver their long awaited new album “Hellalvie” Everclear wanders around in a “Slow Motion Daydream” Ani DiFranco attempts to “Evolve” … and EMI will release Queensryche’s “Classic Masters”.

MARCH 18

David Darling, who collaborated with Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue) on his side project 58, serves up “The Tao of the Cello.”  The buzz on this one is strong, and I highly suggest picking it up.  That’s my “sleeper pick” for the month.

After a title change, hed(pe) will finally deliver “Blackout”Concrete Blonde goes “Live In Brazil”, a 2-CD set… Biohazard says to “Kill or Be Killed” … The Allman Brothers Band is “Hittin’ The Note”

The Buzzcocks release a self-titled effort… “Volume II” of the various artist tribute to Led Zeppelin called, “Pickin’ on Led Zeppelin,” will “ramble on” into record stores… Want some new DVD’s?  Well, how about eye-friendly music from The Beatles, Goo Goo Dolls, and Dave Matthews Band?  All will arrive on the 18th.

To finish off the third Tuesday, we have quite a collection of Rolling Stones material arriving.  The band themselves has a DVD due out.  “For The Record” is their new feature… complete with female artists doing acoustic versions of Stones classics, New Licks should be a worthy tribute to the band… and if you like strings, The String Quartet will deliver an album which not only pays tribute to the Stones, but Aerosmith as well.

MARCH 25

To coincide with her engagement at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Celine Dion shares her “One Heart” with people who don’t care to share $125 with her for a ticket to her show… Brian McKnight makes a “U Turn” at the end of the month… beer drinker, guitar slinger, and true American badass George Thorogood says he’s going to “Ride Til I Die”…   “Meteora” is the new one from Linkin Park… and to finish things off, Ringo Starr dishes up “Ringo Rama.”  Sounds to me like Ringo may be headed to Vegas.  I’m sure his ticket price will be less than Celine’s.

That’s all I have, folks.  Tune in next month to find out the scoop on albums from the White Stripes, “American Idol” lass Kelly Clarkson, Macy Gray, and Jeff Beck.
