Greetings once again, to all faithful readers of Midwest BEAT.   The month of May is here, and summer is just around the corner.   Tours are starting to kick off, and bands are rushing out their new albums to promote this summer.   We’ve got a pretty good harvest of crops to feast on… so here we go.
 

MAY 4...     

            Former Living Color guitarist, Vernon Reid, has a new solo LP slated for release.  Known Unknown is sure to feature amazing 6-string heroics… Ryan Adams has a two-EP set titled, Love is Hell, on the way… Patti Labelle takes us on a Timeless JourneyJackpot will deliver F+ (hopefully not a sign of the grade album ratings will give it)… The newly reunited Judas Priest finally unveil their long-awaited box set Metalogy, complete with a DVD and some other rarities… There is also a 12-CD box set from the Rolling Stones titled, The Singles, which spans from 1963-1965…and Lionel Richie has something special Just For You.  

MAY 11...     

      Take You Higher is a compilation of Sly & the Family Stone covers put forth by a group calling themselves The Clinton Administration… The Detroit Grand Pubas will show the world, Galactic Ass Creatures from Uranusdownset goes Universal… You can also get A Double Dose of Great White this month… There are new albums on the horizon from The Marshall Tucker Band, Seven Mary Three, Northstar and John Scofield, as well as re-issues from Johnny Cash, Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield and WAR. 

MAY 18...     

The seventh album in the growing catalog from Lenny Kravitz, titled Baptism, is on the way… Former Hole/Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf De Maur has her new band’s LP ready to go… Juliana Hatfield is In Exile DeoCatalyst is New Found Glory’s new effort… Bumped from April’s release date, Gene Simmons’ (KISS) solo album, Asshole, is finally ready… Former Skid Row mouthpiece Sebastian Bach has a live DVD for your viewing pleasure… and Come and See About Me, the definitive DVD for John Lee Hooker will also be ready prior to Memorial Day.    

 

 

MAY 25...     

Arriving with equal amounts of anticipation and speculation, Slipknot’s Vol. 3 will hit shelves via the Roadrunner label… DVD’s from matchbox twenty and Cyndi Lauper are slated for release… After a 12-year absence, Wilson Phillips reemerges with a new album.  California is a collection of pop songs from the ‘60s and ‘70s, which features songs made famous by their parents and their friends… George Benson proves to be IrreplaceableAvril Lavigne will continue to get Under My Skin… and to round things out Spyro Gyra will go off The Deep End. 
    Well kids, that’s all I have for you this column.   In closing out this month, I’d like to wish my darling wife a Happy Birthday on May 16, and a happy “National Chia Pet Day” to Jim Hillegonds of Bonfire on May 27.
