GAMING:  New Territory...

I have never been much of a gamer.  As a matter of fact, I have never owned any system higher than a Sega Genesis, and I only had like two games for that, one of which was Pong!

So the fact that my boyfriend is like this amazing video game guy is really funny to me.

On the plus side though, he has actually taught me a thing or two about video games, which is pretty cool.  Do not get me wrong, I am still pretty crappy at them, but I am getting better...or at least I think I am.

All that said, this month I have decided to go in a different direction with my column... uncharted territory if you will.

Here, with the help of David, from Games By The Day (located on 45th Ave. in Highland), I am bringing you a little info on some of the hottest games hitting the street for fall.

Jak II…

This game is an action platformer for Playstation 2.  From what I hear, the first Jak was really well received.  It is rated “teen” and is a one player.  It will be out in early November.

Soul Caliber II…

Here is another sequel, but one that is far superior to its original.  I have played this game and it is amazing!

For those of you who do not know what it is...think Mortal Combat times 10!  Wonderful graphics and weapon selections.  Also there is one other really neat thing about this game.  It is available for three systems, PlayStation 2, Game Cube and X-BOX.

With each system though comes a special different character!  With PlayStation 2 it is Heihachi from the Tekken series, with Gamecube it is Link, and with X-BOX it is Spawn.  The game is rated “teen” and is for two players.  It is already out.

F-Zero GX…

This is a really fun racing game, another on that I have actually played.  There are many, many different courses to choose from and also a variety of space racers.  It is for Gamecube, rated teen and is for up to four players.  It is already out.

Final Fantasy X-2…

So I hear that the Final Fantasy games are pretty popular, so I decided to include the latest one, even though I have no clue what the fascination with them is.  This one continues the story line from Final Fantasy X, but has an improved battle system.  It is an RPG for Playstation 2.  It is rated teen and is one player.  It will be out some time in December.

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence…

This game has vampires, so right there you know it is a winner, because really, how can you go wrong with vampires?  Anyway, this game goes back to its roots with a pure action title.  It is for Playstation 2, it is rated mature and it is one player.  It will be out in November.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King…

This is an action game based on the storyline of the third Lord Of The Rings movie.  It is for Playstation 2 and X-BOX.  It is rated teen and is a one player. Its release date is TBA.

Simpson’s Hit and Run…

Now I am a big fan of The Simpson’s, so this game has already scored big points with me.  It is kind of like Simpson’s meets Grand Theft Auto.  There are many different levels which include races and missions.  It is full of many Simpson’s lines and animated landmarks.  It is available for Playstation 2, Gamecube and X-BOX.  It is rated teen, is a multi-player and is already out.

Mario Kart: Double Dash…

This one is a racing game.  It has two people in each car, one of them drives, while the other uses items and injures other players.  It is for Gamecube, is rated everyone and for up to eight players. It is out in November.

 Madden 2004…

This is a football game, but not just any football game. It is one of the most popular football games ever!  It is for Playstation 2, Gamecube and X-BOX.  It is rated everyone and is up to four players.  It is already out.

 Socom II: U.S. Navy Seals…

This one is for Playstation 2.  It is a first person shooter game that you can either play online, linked with other players, or by yourself.  It is rated mature and is multi-player.  It will be out in November.

Well that is all for this month, hope you enjoyed the new direction this month and everybody have a great Halloween! And also, a great big “Happy 18th Birthday” to my best friend, Ashley Salaz on October 3rd!

I will see you all next month!
