NIGHT ROCK KEEPS ON GROWING…
I would like to thank all of the Northwest Indiana and South Side rock music and local music fans who have been tuning in to the Night Rock Radio show that I co-host every Sunday evening from 6-9pm with Scotty Rosenberg on the X-ROCK 103.9 airwaves. If you read Midwest BEAT on a regular basis, you no doubt have seen the full page ads promoting the radio show and hopefully if you are in the listening radius –– South Bend to Chicago (South Side) –– you have taken the time to tune in and lend us your ears. The Night Rock show features forgotten classics, legendary artists and truly deep, deep cuts. But it also features plenty of homegrown, regional music. That has been an especially popular aspect of our program and we have taken to adding more local music to the show, since your support has enabled us to expand recently from our original one hour time slot to a full three hours of live broadcasting each Sunday. It seems that you all love to hear homegrown music mixed in along with forgotten gems by such classic artists like -- Budgie, Johnny Winter, Uriah Heep, Krokus, Riot, Dio, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Triumph, Amboy Dukes, Captain Beyond, Alice Cooper and others. The list that follows is just a tip of the ice berg in regards to the local artists currently in our music library who are getting frequent spins on the show –– Pride Of Lions, Shuddup & Drive, American Motherload, Steepwater Band, Groovatron, Josh Holmes, Thadeus Project, Ripley Street, Rockin’ Horse, Lazer Band, Drama Queen Die, Second Childhood, Tyrant’s Reign, Scarred, Michael McDermott, Steve Vansak, Echofarm, History’s End, Alison’s Mailbox, The Kind, Salamander Drake, LIttle Johnny Moore, Asteria and John Hunter/The Hounds. Of course there are many more locals we spin on the show, but space just prohibits us from listing them here. Still, you should get a good idea of the broadness of our library from this listing. We play music that is in the blues rock/classic rock/classic metal vein. Sorry, due to the format of our host station, we play nothing in the way of nu-metal or rap rock or the such. Since starting back up in March, the show has found its listening audience progressively growing. We have determined this by the amount of calls we get each week on our live request line and by the response we get to the on air contests we have from time to time. Also from the steadily increasing amount of emails that come in to the program’s web site –– www.nightrock.6string.net –– where we also take song requests and dedications. One of the most popular parts of the show has been our Spotlight Artist segments, where we have local artists come down to the X-ROCK/NIGHT ROCK studio and chat with us about their career, their music and upcoming gigs, as we spin some of their music. We have done these since our first show broadcast in March. Over the months that followed, we have spotlighted an array of both national and regional artists on the show. We have had the company of big name artists like –– Alice Cooper, Jesse Dupree of Jackyl, Don Dokken, George Lynch, Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P., Ronnie James Dio and Kevin Chalfant. We have also had the company of well respected local artists like Thadeus Project, Stellar Road, Highway Band, Steepwater Band, American Motherload, Shuddup & Drive, John Horvath of The Hounds, Drama Queen Die, M&R Rush, Heartsfield, and many others. We recently began a segment called Live In The Studio, where from time to time, we invite selected guests to join us in the studio to play a few of their original songs live on the radio. So far these guest slots have gone over very well and we have gotten powerful response from listeners.
Artists who have already performed live on the Night Rock show in this fashion include –– Jim Peterik (our first such guest), guitar virtuoso Kevin M. Buck, Heartrsfield’s founding members Perry Jordan & J.C. Hartsfield, Jeff Luif, Carl Moser and John McFarland of M&R Rush, the entire Crawpuppies band, and singer/songwriter Josh Holmes. These live on air performances give the program an occasional Grand Ol’ Opry kind of feel, only more rock ‘n’ roll. The show is steadily growing in it’s scope and presence, so I invited you to take an active role in this growth by tuning us in each Sunday night from 6-9pm, then take a few moments to drop us an email (NightRockRadio@aol.com) and let us know what aspects of the program you most like or most dislike. Also send us a few suggestions of what artists –– national and/or local –– whose music you would like to hear us spin on the show. In addition to playing a fair share of requests and having occasional local music guests, there are a variety of weekly segments on Night Rock. We have the “Greatest & Latest” segment where we play a deep classic cut from an artist, then follow it with something brand new from that same artist. We have the weekly “Hot Lead Enema” song, which is where we spin a forgotten molten metal classic (i.e. Saxon, Metal Church, Manowar, Warlock, Megadeth, Chastain, etc.). There is also our “Strictly Uncommercial Frank Zappa Cut Of The Week”, which is exactly what it says, a cool slice of the genius of the late Frank Zappa. Scotty and I are both big F.Z. fans and have found that a lot of Night Rock listeners likewise share our passion for Zappa’s music, so we play a selected FZ cut each and every week. Along with Scotty, Hegewisch Lisa (who happily takes your phone requests each week) and myself, we just added to the show’s cast –– Amy “Blue Jean” Davis. Amy is the show’s new spokesmodel and t-shirt girl (because she can fill out shirts soooooo damn well!). Amy can be seen in our new print and online ads and she will be an active part of our NIGHT ROCK-sponsored live events, such as our HALLOWEEN PARTY at Cronies Gin Mill in Kouts on Sunday October 31st. The live party will follow the broadcast of our very special Halloween radio show, which will feature the one and only Dee Snider of Twisted Sister and Van Helsing’s Curse, as our “Spotlight Artist”. If you have not yet experienced the specially produced Halloween musical epic –– Oculus Infernum –– by Van Helsing’s Curse. Be sure to treat yourself to an incredible treat (no tricks on this show!) as we spin it on our special Halloween edition of Night Rock. In closing, I again extend my thanks to all of you who have supported my program these first six months. If you have not yet had the Night Rock experience, I hope you will start tuning us in each Sunday night at 6pm and support our efforts to bring true classic rock back to the radio dial, while giving locally-produced music a radio home in the region. BANDS! CLUBS! BUSINESSES! Keeping the Night Rock show on the air each week is a costly venture… so if you enjoy and find value in what we are doing on Sunday nights, please join such loyal and sponsors as Cronies Gin Mill, Wild Goat Saloon, The Thadeus Project and Romano’s Pizza, Pasta & Grill in showing your support with advertising. You may just be surprised to find out how reasonable “on air” rates for this kind of specialty program are!!! Call me at (219) 972-9131 or call Hegewisch Lisa at (708) 259-6298. There is only a limited amount of advertising space sold for the Night Rock show each week, so if you want to get on board, please call us today! ROCK ON!!!!!
