SURVIVING METALFEST WAS A BLAST...

So, the Second Central Metalfest has come and gone and what a stress reliever it was. Big shout out for Matt Bishop of Lividity for doing an outstanding job of putting it all together.

My metal-show-companion, Jackie, was sick and I scrambled to find a replacement.  The task was harder than I expected, as there are not too many metal heads, in my direct neck of the woods.

I thought one more phone call couldn’t hurt, so I put in an emergency call to Pete Altieri (Heavycore founder).  He told me he just got off the phone with “Bonesaw” of Chainsaw Homicide and he was heading my direction.  I gave him a call and even though he had already passed my exit, by seven miles, he turned around.  The brotherhood of Heavycore at work!

Needless to say, it was an extremely gracious gesture and most appreciated. Thanks Bonesaw!

As it turned out, we discovered that we had attended a lot of the same metal shows over the last couple of years, and it made for fine conversation.

We were a little late getting to the show but we had 10 hours of metal to enjoy.  Can’t bitch about that.

I ran into Von, formerly of Deaden and was elated to hear that he and Drew are reforming the band.  They are looking for a drummer and are already working on material for a CD.  By the time you read this, www.deaden.net will be up and running again. You heard it here first.

I was thrilled to see more women at the show and this year, two were performing on stage.  Estuary from Ohio has a female vocalist with the ultimate death metal brutality.  If I heard their music on CD, I wouldn’t have known it was a chick. The audience sure was impressed with her ability. Funerus from PA has a female in the band, a bass player.  They kicked ass, too!

I really enjoyed Stabwound from Sweden, it was their last show on what has been a long tour, and Stabwound’s very young members, all gave us 120 percent on stage.

Other bands of interest were: Lust of Decay, North Carolina, Gorgasm and Slough from Illinois, Mortal Decay of New Jersey, and Incantation from Pennsylvania really had the crowd on their feet.

It was good to finally see Incantation; especially since last year they cancelled because of breaking down on the way to the show.

All in all it was a carnal show and I’m already anticipating next years’ event.

METAL NEWS YOU CAN USE...

Iced Earth has joined the ranks of so many others and now has their first-ever greatest hits collection, The Blessed and The Damned.  This double CD includes 23 tracks of re-mastered material (spreading over the bands career with Century Media) clocking in at over two hours.  As customary, a 20-page, deluxe booklet, including lyrics and an extensive mix of bio/liner notes, are included.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse soundtrack is out now.  It features eighteen bands, including: Killswitch Engage, Lacuna Coil, and exclusive tracks from Cradle of Filth and Rob Zombie.

Swedish Thrashmeisters, The Haunted are set to release rEVOLVEr on October 19.  The first pressing, of the CD will be issued as a limited-edition Digipak, with two bonus tracks.  Vocalist Peter Dolving, who appeared on their self-titled debut, is taking over, as front man, again.

Have you picked up your copy of Carnal Forge’s Aren’t You Dead Yet? or Hammerfall’s latest, One Crimson Night DVD?

Florida’s Malevolent Creation just released their ninth full length, Warkult, and announces the return of long-time drummer Dave Culross.

Finland’s Nightwish has joined Roadrunner Records.  With recording completed, Once, will become available later this year, in the U.S. (it’s already released in Europe).

Napalm Death’s Leaders Not Followers: Part 2 will hit the street October 5th and Jag Panzer’s Casting The Stones is set for an October 19 release.

Don’t miss Deicide, Cattle Decapitation, Diabolic and Goatwhore at Chicago’s House of Blues on September 27.

So I’m checking out the Roadrunner website and I came across this –– (Dateline 8-2-2004): CHIMAIRA DRUMMER CHOKES ON OWN VOMIT, AGAIN!

Is he trying to break a Bon Scott record or what?  There are better things to worship than the Porcelain God.

Needless to say the new drummer is Kevin Talley, formerly of Dying Fetus/Misery IndexChimaira has been co-headlining with Machine Head, on the U.S. Road Rage Tour.  This will be their first time to play Japan and Australia.  Be on the lookout for their upcoming DVD, The Dehumanizing Process, out this winter.

SAY WHAT?...

It’s been 35 years ago that William Shatner dabbled in music and had a solo album.  He’s dabbling again, this time with Ben Folds, the sure-to-be classic, Has Been.

Henry Rollins is contributing to the mix and might add some meat to the project.  The press release states pop-driven, lyrically potent songs written by the duo, to be out this month.

‘Til Next Time… KEEPING METAL OUT OF THE MORGUE!
